Download Child Daycare Center - Women Studies - Assingment and more Exercises Sociology of Gender in PDF only on Docsity! “The accumulation of knowledge leads to the realization of ignorance.” Directions: I. Visit the Child Daycare Center on campus and observe the children play for at least 20 minutes. Take a tour of the new center and look for structured gendered differences (i.e. types of toys, activities, etc.). If you would rather visit a nearby elementary school near your home, this is also acceptable. Take detailed notes. II. Spend at least 20 minutes observing the interactions of college students around campus. Take detailed notes. Keep in mind that you will be doing a pure observation. This means that you are not to interact in any way with your subjects as you could change the nature of the interaction. Points to address in your paper: 1. What type of gendered patterns emerged at the Child Daycare Center (or elementary school)? Be sure to include specific details from your notes. 2. What type of gendered patterns emerged on the college campus? Be sure to include specific details from your notes. 3. What inferences can you make about gender from your observations? 4. How do your observations tie into the articles/conversations from class? You paper must be supported with course concepts (theories, studies, etc.). Simply stating arguments without factual support or integration of course material will result in a poor grade. Ask yourself whether or not you could have written this paper without having read chapters 4 and 5. If your answer is yes, the paper will receive a failing grade. As I grade your papers, I will be looking to see whether or not your points are grounded in what we have learned and supported by course material. You must articulate that you have a strong understanding of the concepts and this understanding must clearly come through in your paper. * Be sure to include your ideas and feelings in the paper. Your comments and thoughts are important and should not be excluded—this is the stuff that makes the paper worth reading. What makes a paper rich is the writer’s ability to express her/his critical ideas in a way that reveals the writer’s interest/concern in the topic. It’s very obvious when a student puts forth minimal effort. Child Daycare Center Docsity.com
