He stood against apartheid and due to his political views, he was thrown into jail for 27 years. He was released and Mandela forgave everyone,he said "courageous people do not fear forgiving, for the sake of peace.", for the betterment of the Republic of South Africa. He became the first black president of South Africa in 1994.
