Optimist: gender equality has been achieved Pessimist: gender equality has NOT been achieved Women outnumber men in workplaces for the first time (46% of work force in UK) No true emancipation: women are still underrepresented in politics Women are now present in jobs that were usually dominated by men Still underrepresented in companies -> lack of influence (contacts) & power Men are more likely to lose their jobs in recessions Women are still tied to housework (stereotype) In some cases, women earn more money than men (survey 2012) Women are still victims of sexual & physical violence Statistics: women are generally paid less than their male counterparts 5.) #MeToo
