Cardiopulmonary
heart attack signs
-Some people are asymptomatic
-Chest pain, pressure, or squeezing (radiating into the jaw, shoulders, left arm, or upper
back)
-Dyspnea, diaphoresis, nausea, syncope, and impaired cognition
-Women are more likely to experience SOB, nausea, vomiting, back pain, jaw pain,
cough and fatigue
-Men are more likely to report chest pain and sweating
Hypertension (HTN)
high blood pressure 140/90 or higher
• HTN increases risk of Coronary artery disease (CAD), Myocardial infarct (MI), and
Cerebral Vascular Accident (CVA)
CABG (Coronary Artery Bypass Graft)
Open heart surgery involving arterial bypass using a transplanted vein
electrocardiography (EKG)
Test to measure heart's electrical activity.
Astherosclerosis
progressive disease, arterial thickening and hardening, caused by Hypertension, high
cholesterol, tobacco use, diabetes, and obesity
Arteriosclerosis
increased lipids, cholesterol that restricts blood flow
OT interventions for congestive heart failure
-adaptation and energy conservation techniques
-complete OCC profile, help client create realistic goals, create treatments that help
client reach the goals
-determine current occupational performance level and what chronic limitation they have
