Topic 1: How important are political theories in national governance?
With the aid of political theories, national governance can be successful in achieving
its goal of directing, controlling, and regulating citizen behavior through the influence
of many institutions and relationships in order to maximize the public interest.
Political theories can influence national government in three main ways: by
influencing how we think about politics, how we think about public policy more
broadly, and how we engage the public. First, it can aid in improving our political
thinking, which will aid in political decision-making. This brings us to the second
point, which is that political theory influences how we think about public policy more
extensively. This will support innovative practical work on how we should
comprehend the difficulties the country is facing and develop laws or other measures
that would aid in resolving the issues. Political theories help us understand how
institutions and policies function, but more significantly, they teach us how they may
be made better. Thirdly, political theories motivate us to become politically active and
to contribute to society by taking on important national concerns.
Four aspects of political theory that I found in my research on Boudou are crucial to
national governance. They are as follows:
1. Heuristic Function
2. Pedagogical Function
3. Critical Function
4. Ethical Function
Political theory's heuristic function aids in making sense of what is taking place, or in
grasping events in order to draw forth ideas and important problems that will aid in
our comprehension of them. On the other hand, by presenting us with specific
political issues and solutions with a global perspective, its pedagogical function
pushes us to improve our political judgment. People are compelled to dedicate
themselves to the work of identifying these problems and of evaluating the people's
subjective relationship with the political by the persistence of problems (the problems
of order, legitimacy, obedience, relations between individual and community, minority
and majority, ethics and politics, etc.). The critical function of political theory comes
next, and it is based on the straightforward, optimist notion that there is always room
for improvement. Denouncing what has become "normal" and is damaging people's
lives in a nation that has gone unnoticeable to its leaders will go a huge way toward
pressuring them to change and strive for the better and even the best.
These political theories can aid in national governance as they provide responses,
correct mistakes, and imagine solutions. As Éric Weil puts it, "without theory, there is
only affective malaise and violent revolt, both indeterminate and unexplained, that is
to say impossible to soothe or to overcome." Whether theory be normative,

These political theories can aid in national governance as they provide responses, correct mistakes, and imagine solutions. As Éric Weil puts it, "without theory, there is only affective malaise and violent revolt, both indeterminate and unexplained, that is to say impossible to soothe or to overcome." Whether theory be normative,

interpretative, or genealogical, it exposes one's thinking limitations and forces them to expand in order to think and act better in pluralistic and conflictual environments. Political theory contributes towards making the world more “livable” by posing the question perfectly stated by Leca: “What should the world be in order for us to be able to live in it ‘humanely’”? Overall, Political Theories will help us to not settle for less, to not settle for our current situation being a developing country. As citizens, it helps us to understand political reality, political principles, political concepts, and will make us become more engaged citizens for the success of governance in our nation that will lead to the betterment of our motherland. Four Functions of Political Theory that Can Be Applied in National Governance:

  1. Heuristic Function The first aim of political theory is to make sense of what is happening—that is to say, to grasp situations in order to extract from them concepts and critical issues that will help us to understand them. In this sense political theory is no different from any scientific enterprise: its aim is to inquire so as to make the world more intelligible. The analytical loop is simple enough. (1) Set out from a problematic situation, from a fact that worries us, either because it is insufficiently intelligible or because it is incompatible with the factual and axiological fabric that surrounds it. (2) Inquire into this situation within a more or less determinate theoretical framework (determinate enough to formulate questions, indeterminate enough for the object to contribute to the development of the framework). (3) The result will often prove not so much a solution to the problem as a clarification, or a discovery of its conditions of possibility. We can therefore conclude that political theories can help the government to understand an issue or a situation of the nation that will eventually lead them to provide a solution to the problem, knowing the root that caused it and have deep understanding of the problem.
  2. Pedagogical Function The pedagogical role of political theory, in particular when it mobilizes its classic texts, must be to define and sharpen political judgment by confronting us with particular political problems, and with attempts (albeit often vain) to resolve them with a universal scope. It is the permanence of problems (the problems of order, legitimacy, obedience, relations between individual and community, minority and majority, ethics and politics, etc.) that oblige us to commit to a work of identifying these problems, and of the evaluation of our subjective relationship with the political.
  3. Critical Function The critical function of political theory rests upon the simple, optimistic idea that one can always do better and understand better. Political theory is situated at the crossroads of that which “is” and that which “could be.” Not that which “should be,” which would suggest too grand a claim to justification, but that which could be better

legitimacy, obedience, relations between individual and community, minority and majority, ethics and politics, etc.) that oblige people to commit to a work of identifying these problems, and of the evaluation of the people’s subjective relationship with the political. Next is the critical function of political theory that rests upon the simple, optimistic idea that one can always do better and understand better. This will be a big help to denounce what became “normal” that is destroying the lives of the citizens in a country that has become invisible to the leaders of one’s country and challenge them to change it and aim for the better and even best. Finally, as Éric Weil states, “without theory, there is only affective malaise and violent revolt, both indeterminate and unexplained, that is to say impossible to soothe or to overcome.” These political theories can help in national governance as it gives responses, correct errors, and imagine solutions. Whether theory is normative, interpretative, or genealogical, it exposes the limits of one’s thinking, and therefore pushes one to think better and do better, in conditions of pluralism and conflictuality. Political theory makes the world more "livable" by raising the perfectly articulated question by Leca: "What should the world be in order for us to be able to live in it "humanely"?" Overall, Political Theories will help us to not settle for less, to not settle for our current situation being a developing country. As citizens, it aids in our understanding of political realities, political principles, and political conceptions and increases our political participation in support of effective national governance that will benefit our motherland. We have to study political theory to: The political theory explains to us about the political world and how we can create Understand the concepts of our political system, including democracy, equality, individuality, and justice The political theory also makes us understand our present political reality and other political principles Overall, political theory helps us in understanding the meaning of political concepts and makes us become more engaged citizens. GOVERNANCE: It has four features: governance is not a set of rules or an activity, but a process; the process of governance is not based on control, but on coordination; it involves both public and private sectors; it is not a formal institution, but continuing interaction. The purpose of governance is to guide, steer and regulate citizens’ activities through the power of different systems and relations so as to maximize the public interest. In terms of political science, governance refers to the process of political administration, including the normative foundation of political authority, approaches to dealing with political affairs and the management of public resources. It particularly focuses on the role of political authority in maintaining social order and the exercise of administrative power in a defined sphere. Governance also requires authority and power and ultimately aims to maintain a normal social order.
