Name of the Teacher Date Level of the class Length of lesson Deepa Adbhuta 16.12.2021 A1 Elementary 60 minutes Lesson Type: Vocabulary Lesson Topic: Documents and Texts Lesson Aims: By the end of the lesson, students will be better able to… 1. Identify and use ten new nouns related to the topic Documents and Texts ( notebook, magazine, newspaper, letter, diary, passport, postcard, bill, menu, and textbook ) Target vocabulary: notebook, magazine, newspaper, letter, diary, passport, postcard, bill, menu, textbook Lesson Outcomes: By the end of the lesson, students will have… 1. Learned about different types of Documents and Texts, can identify them, and understand the use of the target language. 1 i-to-i LOVE TEFL Lesson Plan Anticipated difficulties: 1. The students are mostly to speak to each other in their L1 than in English as they come from the same country. 2. Students may become demotivated if they aren’t able to pronounce or memorise or differentiate the new words learned. 3. Students who are confident may dominate the activities, especially during the production stage, making it difficult for less confident students to participate. Suggested solutions: 1. Even before we start the lesson, I'll make a point of reminding everyone of the rule of only speaking in English in the classroom. I will also have a point deduction system where any student who talks in their L1 loses a point for the whole class. They will receive 3 points for the day, and the students as a class must ensure that they talk in English. 2. I will provide phrases that differentiate the nouns while displaying each noun's visual to assist pupils in distinguishing between them. I'll also ask a lot of CCQs to make sure everyone understands. 3. I'll start by pairing the more confident students with the less confident students, and throughout class activities, I'll make sure to use specific names to increase involvement. I would urge the kids who are more confident to work in pairs to answer any question asked to the entire class so that the less confident students will participate and be motivated to answer questions. 2 i-to-i LOVE TEFL Lesson Plan board. pass it around the class to have a good look. - Can you order food with a menu? 10.textbook a book that teaches subjects and is used in schools use a realia of a textbook and write the word on the board. pass it around the class to have a good look. - Do you write in a textbook? - Can you give an example of a textbook? Split them into a few groups. Have a couple of flashcards from the previous lesson to show them. When the flashcard is revealed, they must clap once, and if two or more students clap their hands from two Because the students are of all ages and will be returning to class after handling different work or other classes, they will be refreshed. A fast review of the last session will instil confidence in their ability to use English. 5 i-to-i LOVE TEFL Lesson Plan introduce the new topic for the day. It will help keep pupils motivated to engage through the lesson. S-S separate groups, they must play 'Rock paper scissors' to see who gets to answer. Points are awarded to those who properly answer the question. 2. After the small game, The students will be given a new set of flashcards to guess what they are and what the topic for the day is. With the same enthusiasm, the students will be more comfortable working through and figuring out the target language. Presentation: Meaning To allow students to understand and memorise the target vocabulary through the flashcard and realia. 8 minutes T-S 1. Now using the realia/Flashcard that has been prepared for the class, Show them one by one. Will pass the realia so the students can open and see how they look. 2. Make the students elicit the Target words shown on the flashcard or realia I'm holding. 3. Guide them in figuring out the purpose or the meaning of the target words. 4. Stick the flashcard on the board and along with the word structure and the meaning next to it. Will have increased STT (Student Talking Time) since they will use their own vocabulary to elicit the words and definitions effectively. Will make accurate predictions based on the English they know. 6 i-to-i LOVE TEFL Lesson Plan 4. Ask CCQ's to confirm understanding Presentation: Form To ensure that students are familiar with the form and accurate spelling of the target language. 5 minutes S-S 1. As an individual activity, the teacher gives each student a "word scramble" (Fig. 2) worksheet. The words are removed from the board till they are done with it. 2. After that, the teacher will stick the words again next to the respective flashcard and again go through the form after which the students check their results by correcting their papers. The form is reinforced in the students' minds, as they use their memory to figure out the scrambled words, allowing them to become more familiar with the target vocabulary. Presentation: Pronunciatio n To encourage students to accurately articulate all of the target vocabularies. 5 minutes T-S 1. The teacher will apply the choral drilling method for this stage. The teacher will circle the stressed syllable in each Target vocabulary word to indicate where the word is stressed and demonstrate how the word is pronounced authentically. 2. The teacher will demonstrate the target vocabulary with exaggerated mouth movement and will pay special attention to pupils who are having difficulty pronouncing the word correctly. 3. The teacher choruses sentences with target vocab embedded within. After each sentence Teacher does CIC for individual To accurately pronounce the vocab, they develop the correct sounds and mouth form. They will imitate the teacher's sounds, resulting in more natural-sounding words. 7 i-to-i LOVE TEFL Lesson Plan The 'Presentation: Meaning' introduces the target language to the students for the first time. This ensures that students are comfortable with the word before being given the proper meaning. Because the students share the same L1, explaining the meaning in the same method will be easier than worrying about getting the meaning across to them. With the use of visual aids and the teacher's acting, the students will be able to accurately determine the meanings of the words at this level. Students will obtain a far more thorough knowledge of the meaning given thanks to the visual aids and movements. Students may find it difficult to distinguish between all of them due to the nature of the target language. As a result, I'll ask a lot of CCQs to make sure the students understand the meanings and distinctions between them. PPP's next stage is 'Presentation: From', which occurs once the students have grasped the concept. This level helps children to get acquainted with how words are written and spelled. It is best to utilize visual aids like flashcards and write the words on the board. The students will be handed a word scramble worksheet to complete on their own. This exercise was chosen because it helps students to become familiar with the word's spelling while also allowing them to arrive at the spelling through their own cognitive determination. Once they've completed the task, students must mark their worksheets to help them remember the form and its meanings. 'Presenting: Pronunciation' is the most important aspect of the presentation stage. The choral drilling approach is intended to familiarise students with how each word sounds. This, I feel, will significantly improve the student's speaking abilities. In addition, the words are written on the board, with the emphasized words highlighted. Because all of the students' first language is Chinese, with a completely different set of symbols and phonemics, I believe that pronouncing some target vocabulary will be quite difficult. As a result, the teacher will chorus each word individually, giving special attention to the stressed syllables. Finally, the CIC exercise is aimed to help students with hearing the sounds of words when they are embedded in a sentence. Not only does seeing the form in this format help pronunciation, but it also makes pupils seem more natural while speaking English. This leads us to the practice stage: I believe this 'Controlled Practice' worksheet is essential since it demonstrates the target language in a variety of settings 10 i-to-i LOVE TEFL Lesson Plan and sentence types. This is likely to increase their understanding of the target language as well as their ability to recognize it in context. Students are also encouraged to work with one other student to figure out the answers to the questions on the worksheet at this level, which makes it easier for them to figure out the answers while learning from each other. Production is one of the most important phases because it allows students to use the language in a setting that is comparable to the real world. It also requires me, as the teacher, to constantly observe the pairs so that I can see any faults that can be corrected later or for dominating students. This level shows the students fulfilling the lesson's goal of utilizing the new vocabulary. Allowing students to make language will not only help them remember what they've learned, but it will also give them the tools and confidence to use what they've learned in the real world. The cooler at the end of the lesson allows students to see how far they've progressed throughout the lesson. This stage allows students to review all they've learned in the previous hour and with a little bit of fun activity, ensuring that they depart on a positive note. Even if they just added one or two new words to their vocabulary, it is still an improvement, and the students should be able to leave class with a positive spirit. Potential Issues Since the students are adults, their responsibilities may overlap with the classes, causing stress when attending or even missing class. In those cases, I'd sit down with each student after the lesson or whenever they seem to have free time to figure out their schedule and find a suitable time for them to take the lesson, or if they couldn't make it, I'd email them the day's lesson so they wouldn't miss anything when they come to the next classes. I would be happy to answer any queries they may have. Other Considerations The students who come to the class would want to focus on the fluency of speech in English and be able to acquire the language in a natural way. More exercises to improve their speaking abilities, I believe, are required for this class and should also be given more attention by making the lesson that 11 i-to-i LOVE TEFL Lesson Plan increases in TTT than the STT.
