What does "make a difference" mean?

I've spent my entire life trying to figure out something to do with my life and I always come across these articles or google searches that say to get fulfillment you need to feel like you're making a difference. I've never been fulfilled in my life but anyway I always thought that "make a difference" meant you have to want to help people. But I don't want to help people, in a billion years we'll all be dead so what's the point? Are there other ways to make a difference or is the only way to be happy working for hours in a homeless soup kitchen for free?

Why are humans so cruel and selfish?

I guess it's because I'm a bit of a softy but oftenly I've seen these gruesome viral videos on random websites, I remember this one were there was a guy who cut a dog in half, surprisingly it was still a alive and then he just kept banging it with a hammer... Poor thing, another was of this chines women who basically just tied her own 5 year old daughter to a chair and kept hitting her until she was knocked out dead... I remember watching a couple other videos about what people do to animals, at animal farms, how they bread them in cramped and unbearable facilities along so killing so many of them in such terrible ways, (kinda makes me feel bad for all those times I went to subway or took a trip to Walmart) even in school and socially around the Internet, being a normal person on the intnernet is practically impossible, I find it hard to understand why people would want to make them selves look like mean devilish fiends over the web, it's seems every one on YouTube would take even the slightest chance and build up as much effort as possible to make another feel bad about himself by replying with a hateful message in hoping that they would fulfill there selfish causes to gain the top comment (really?) even in history class,, I read alot and where currently on this section of the Industrial Age, we get alot of feed about the cruel insanity that people went through back then, you compare a 10 year old boy in the 18th century, he'd be forced working in a dangerous facorty risking his life every day doing hard work under harsh conditions because his family needs more money. The average 10 year old in the 21st century is at home playing Call of Duty yelling and cursing at other 10 year olds on Xbox live because he's a spoiled brat. The US government is cruel in it self as well, we took this land (North America) from the Natuve Americans, the land they lived there peaceful lives in, along so going to war with them and killing them. There are better ways around these? Right

Who would agree with my Observations?

"The whole world runs on cycles of self-surrounding factors that are intriguing for humorous or self-interesting reasons. Especially throughout the ages of puberty, people tend to lose their ability to focus on their goal in life, and they go out of their way to make some laughs from others or show how clever they are. Humans are selfish beings, only worried about how he or she may appear to others, thus losing their individual personalities for the sake of “fitting in.” This childish, inappropriate behavior has become a lot more frequent over the recent years than it has been before. As it says in the Book of Revelations; the world will grow more and more fascinated with the deceitful evils of the human mind. We have lost many abstract, religious thinkers through these ages of demonic-like phenomena. Teenagers are constantly being piled up with studies and social atmospheric pressure. There is a constant, repeating cycle that people follow, a cycle of inappropriate entertainment and behaviors. We have been given basic instructions from God to follow, a sequence of details that we must follow in order to stay away from demonic lies and human-lustful interests. God has warned us about the dangers of the occult and the desire to explore witchcraft. People over the years have been blinded from these instructions, and are constantly being exposed to these evil, lustful lies. These occult interests are being spread around like fire through the young and adolescent, things that many are unaware of with their lustful minds. They lust for excitement, the want to know something or everything that is hidden in the shadows, that’s exciting and against the basic fundamentals of human nature, thus going against God’s will."

Describe a time when you felt the "majority" was stupid?help!!!

I have always been the quiet kid, the observer. The one who sometimes got bullied, but more often watched others get bullied. I remember visiting the Nazi concentration camps as a teenager and feeling a similiar feeling to the one I felt in a school yard, albeit on a much larger scale. The feeling that many times, as Voltaire once said, "the masses are asses". I still feel that way in a lot of ways, as you watch how many people are ignorant of climate change for example, or how they buy their cheap garbage from wal mart without even a thought as to where it came from or the working conditions of those who made it. I often feel like we are on a non sustainable suicide run, where most people are so stupid and ignorant and lost in their little world of mindless consumerism that one day reality is going to come down hard, and when it does they are going to blame their politicians, when all along we have only ourselves to blame.

Why do people have such a lack of care for one another?

Wasn't society better when people cared about each other instead of just themselves targeting someone with low self esteem to boost theirs? When does the hate stop when I kill myself?

Is our memory limited? Why can we not recall previous incarnations?

"What's the reason for this apparent blind spot in our conscious activity? For that matter....do we remember our childhood in this lifetime as it was or as we are now? Do we even remember the earliest years? I'm wondering why the past seems to be almost fleeting, rather than solidly implanted. Where does memory begin and end, and how does it change with time? I suspect we can remember all the way back to the beginning....but how?"

What Book to Read For Western Civilization Class?

for my western civilization class i have to read a book that is loosely non-fiction from the beginning of time up to 1648. I'm not a non fiction reader, so i'm not really sure what to pick.I was thinking either The Aeneid or Dante's inferno. Both approved because although not factual, they highly influenced the culture. I am a reader, just not really non fiction. Are there any other books that you would think would be easier or a more entertaining read? no Bible, or Quran please... nothing against them, but i'd prefer not to read something so long

Can anyone put this in layman's terms?

The role of possible worlds in explicating necessity is semantic. They are relevant because contingent propositions or sentences are supposed to have truth values which depend upon the how the world is and necessary propositions are thought of as the special limiting case where the value turns out true however the world might be (i.e. in every possible world). However, many formal languages were devised without there being any intention of speaking of material reality, having an intended subject matter which is wholly abstract. The designer of such a language may declare by fiat that statements have truth values which are independent of any possible world and hence must be necessary if true.
