Longitude is a system of measuring east-west distances on a globe. Lines of longitude converge at the north and south poles. On Earth there is a central line of longitude called the Prime Meridian that runs through Greenwich, England (as well as other places, of course), and distances east and west of the PM are expressed in degrees.
