D. Different types of resistors fail in different ways. Old carbon resistors often lost resistance because burning material turns into carbon that has very little resistance. Metal film and wire-wound resistors usually go open. It is difficult, or indeterminate to measure a resistor in circuit, ie without disconnecting at least one side from the circuit where it is used.
