"The minimum amount of change that is required to be brought about in a stimulus so that the change gets noticed is referred to as the differential threshold. It is the minimum level of change that is necessary for a person to detect that there has been a change in the stimuli. That is why it is also known as j.n.d. (or just noticeable difference).
