Which language did Maria Stuart and her court talk - English or Scottish?

I didn't know that !!!! I thought Scot was a dialect of Irish Gaelic and that English is of other language group!!! OK, as a Russian I may be excused for wrong perseption.

Scotland was and still is a bilingual country. In the Highlands, the language is Gaelic, closely related to Irish Gaelic. In the Lowlands, the language is Scots, believed by the Scottish people to be a language closely related to English and by the English people to be a dialect of English. I suspect that most of Mary Stuart's people spoke Scots.
