People often find themselves having difficulties communicating their true self because of social norms which can ultimately change and alter social behavior (Grison &Gazzaniga, 2022). When it comes to concepts in social psychology and personality, both can help explain attributes such as stereotypes, which are generalizations about a group of people that are often based on limited or inaccurate information. Taking attributes as a prime example, to go over information for a test coming up led to getting a decent score on that test, doing the polar opposite and not going over the information or studying in general the result would be failing the test (Grison et al., 2022). Cultural intelligence (CQ) is an essential idea that can also help people in modifying to cultural contexts and transmitting successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. As stated by Ang and Van Dyne (2015), people with higher CQ can better understand cultural norms and customs, warranting them to interact flourishingly with people from different cultural backgrounds. Empathy is another pivotal social psychology environment that can help intercultural communication. Empathy requires comprehension and partaking in another person’s
feelings. As stated by Liu (2019), empathy is affiliated with intercultural capability, which is the ability to communicate thrivingly with people from multiple backgrounds. It is also worth discussing that personality traits such as honesty and personableness also affect a person’s behavior when interconnecting with people. Honesty is related with a greater readiness to undergo innovative ideas and practices, which can help alteration to new cultural circumstances, and is ultimately linked to more collective and compassionate behavior (Noftle & Robins, 2007). Conclusion By obtaining comprehension in social psychology and personality, we as people can add to our understanding of the different features required to productively communicate with individuals with different backgrounds. These abilities can not only help with communication with people from various cultures but also assist with people maneuvering through communication barriers. All while encouraging acceptance, social intercourse, and increasing the understanding of people intercommunicating with each other no despite the contrast in culture, thoughts, and beliefs.
