Commanders drive the training process through the activities of: i. Understand (commander's intent) ii. Visualize - A training objective is a statement that describes the desired outcome of a training activity in the unit (task, conditions, and standard). - Training models, such as the eight-step training model, have been developed and used by units as a useful planning and execution tool for managing training events. - 8-step training model - crawl - walk - run - Rehearsals - unit training schedules UTM 8-step training model (2018 ELO?) ✔✔1. Walk - Training becomes incrementally more difficult, requiring more resources from the unit and home station, and increasing the level of realism. Run - The level of difficulty for the training event intensifies, requires optimum resources, and ideally Execute Training (UTM) ✔✔a. Training meetings drive the UTP until the plan is complete. They are one of the most important meetings a unit conducts. b. Not all tasks will be performed to standard on the first try - retraining and re-trying tasks must be planned for and programmed into unit training events. c. Formal evaluations are planned and resourced with dedicated evaluators or OCs. 3. Internal evaluations are planned, resourced, and conducted by the unit undergoing the evaluation. 4. External evaluations are planned, resourced, and conducted by a headquarters at an echelon higher in the chain of command.
