Animal Farm

One night Mr. Jones, owner of the Manor Farm, was too drunk and he forgot to lock popholes. After he slept, animals on the farm gathered to hear what Old Major was going to say. Because he had a strange dream and he wanted them to listen to that. Also, he was twelve years old and was so highly regarded on the farm. Major started his speech when he saw all the animals were ready and were waiting for him. He said that he did not have time too long before he die. And told them his experiences. He continued his speech that human beings were unnecessary. They just consumed everything and did nothing. Animals were the ones who worked harder but they did nothing. And lastly, he finished his speech that all men were enemies and all animals were comrades. Then he told his dream. He told that he dreamt of a world where human beings were disappeared and resembled a song. He started to sing that song and other animals accompanied him. But Mr. Jones woke up and he thought that there was a fox in the yard. He seized the gun and everyone fled to their own place. Old Major died in his sleep peacefully three nights later. His speech made the animals on the farm more intelligent and three of them which were Snowball, Napoleon, and Squealer started to hold secret meetings. They elaborated Major’s teaching into a system of thought, which they called Animalism, and explained that to other animals. Some of them supported the idea, on the other hand, some of them did not. But no matter what the Rebellion was going to happen. Then the Rebellion was achieved earlier than thought. Mr. Jones was a capable farmer in past years but he was not now. One day he got so drunk at the Red Lion and the men did not feed the animals. When he got back and went to sleep the animals were still unfed. They could not stand it any longer. And the Rebellion started. He and his men did not expect that and they did not know what to do. He had no choice but to flee. And so, the Rebellion happened successfully. Manor Farm was now theirs. They destroyed everything that reminded them of Mr. Jones. The animals worked harder that summer and everything were perfect. They were happy as they never imagined. They founded some committees for some kinds of animals but that did not end successfully. They tried to learn reading and writing. Some of them learned completely but most of them could not manage this. Pigs explained themselves about why they eat apples and drink milk. They claimed that these foods were for their health and they convinced animals by saying that if they did not eat healthily, Mr. Jones would come back. So animals did not want Mr. Jones and they understood that pigs’ health was important. The news on Animal farm was spread across the country. Every day Snowball and Napoleon tell them the story of the Rebellion and teach them the song, Beasts of England. But Mr. Jones was not satisfied with that situation. He and other farmers attacked the farm to take it. But animals were ready for this attack. They defeated Mr. Jones and other farmers thanks to Snowball’s tactics. When winter arrived, Mollie became more suspicious. She did not work thoroughly and she always found an excuse for this. One day Clover questioned her. He claimed that he saw her with one of Mr. Pilkington’s men. She denied that but after that moment no one saw her again. In January, the earth was cold and nothing could be done in the fields. It was accepted

that the pigs were the cleverer animals and they were going to decide all questions with voting. But the disputes between Napoleon and Snowball made it hard to make a decision. They disagreed with each other. Snowball was trying to discover new methods for the farm but Napoleon was opposing his ideas. Snowball came up with an idea which was building a windmill. Other animals were fascinated by that idea. Snowball started to work. But the windmill idea divided the farm deeply. Then Snowball made an excellent speech that the ones who were against the idea of windmill started to accept it. However, nine enormous dogs attacked Snowball. He ran away fastly and the dogs could not catch him. These dogs were under the command of Napoleon. Now he took the lead. He changed the order on the farm according to his mind. Later he decided to build the windmill. Everybody was surprised. That night Squealer told other animals that the idea of the windmill was Napoleon’s and Snowball stole his idea so that’s why he was against the idea this was his plan. Other animals had to accept that because of the growling dogs.
