Your Answer: In order to happen a muscle contraction, firstly a nerve signal is a sent to the muscle fibers. And Acetylcholine releases from a motor nerve ending. Acetylcholine binds to the muscle cell and triggers the sodium channels to open and release sodium ions. Sodium ions go to the inside the cell and it will trigger an action potantial that eventually reaches the sarcoplasmic reticulum. The presence of sodium causes calcium ions to be released. Calcium ions relase from sarcoplamic reticulum of muscle cell and make a muscle contraction to happen. Acetylcholine (a special chemical called a neurotransmitter) is released from a motor nerve at the neuromuscular junction (or NMJ). Acetylcholine binds to receptors on the muscle fiber that cause sodium channels to open. Sodium ions rush inside the cell, triggering an action potential which eventually reaches the sarcoplasmic reticulum.
