JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Careers Consultant (International) Department Student Services and Employability Location: Cyncoed and Llandaff campus Grade: 6AB Salary: £35,326 - £39,739 per annum Tenure: Fixed term for 2 years Hours: 37 hours per week (occasional evening and weekend working required) Accountable to: Careers Consultant Manager This job description is indicative, not prescriptive, and the balance of duties will be in accordance with the contract of employment. Role Summary: This is a key post that will contribute to the ambitions of the University’s new Strategic Plan 2017/18 – 2022/23. To provide a comprehensive suite of careers and employability services to staff and students, specialising predominantly in supporting international students and graduates to enhance their employability skills and secure graduate-level outcomes. Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Employability and Career Education 1. To act as the lead point of contact for all queries regarding careers and employability education for international students across all Schools 2. To pro-actively develop and maintain positive working relationships with all relevant internal stakeholders 3. To work with academic staff to identify ways in which the Careers Service can contribute to the development of employability within their programmes and implement change 4. To collaborate with School-based employability contacts to agree and deliver programmes of employability support, reviewing progress via termly Employability Engagement Reports. 5. To deliver career-related workshops/webinars and lectures as required. 6. To lead the development and maintenance of online information and resources, predominantly tailored to international students 7. To develop and maintain strong links with the Global Engagement Office identifying opportunities for collaborative working, such as supporting Global Week and their International Student Ambassador recruitment schemes 8. To contribute to the annual planning cycle of extra-curricular workshops/webinars and skills development activities with colleagues from the Students’ Union, Centre for Student Entrepreneurship and other stakeholders as relevant. 9. To participate as required in Induction, Open Days, graduation and other key student events. Careers Advice 10. Work with the Employability Officer (International) to ensure adequate availability of careers information, advice and guidance appointments and extra-curricular careers events for international students 11. To deliver structured one-to-one or small group appointments and drop-in sessions, utilising the most relevant and up-to-date labour market information and careers resources available. 12. To ensure that all students leave a careers appointment with a clear action plan to move their career planning forward and provide any follow- up information and support that is required. 13. To maintain up-to-date records of all careers appointments using the prescribed reporting system. 14. To pro-actively develop and maintain specialist knowledge of industry developments, labour market trends and career pathways relevant to international students. 15. To pro-actively join professional networks and groups linked to international student support, such as AGCAS and UKCISA, and attend relevant conferences and training events. 16. To contribute to regular peer assessment and feedback, supporting colleagues in maintaining and developing up-to-date skills.
