Classification of Needs This report is meant to present the needs of two clients who are currently incarcerated. This report will address concerns with each client’s mental health condition while being incarcerated, and coping with stressors which may have led to their incarceration. This report will also provide recommendations for housing classification for each client to best fit the circumstances presented by their history prior to, and after being incarcerated currently or previously. Client Number One Client Number One is a 16-year-old transgender female who is currently being housed in a juvenile justice prison facility. Client Number One was homeless at the time of arrest due to conflicts in the home with family regarding being a transgender female. Client Number One has also presented a history of substance abuse, which are a cause for concern. Client Number One has no noted history of violent crimes, or violent actions since being housed in the juvenile facility. With the previously stated substance abuse concerns notated, a substance abuse prevention program such as an impatient substance abuse treatment center. With the challenges presented in the home with family, Client Number One could benefit from the support and resources of the program. In this program, Client Number One will attend school to continue with their studies and receive guidance on how to cope with life’s challenges, logical thinking, and interaction with family and others. (Texas HHS, 2023) Client Number One can also have access to counseling to interact with to discuss the challenges Client Number One faces being a transgender female. I also recommend Client Number Two can be placed in a protective custody class of the general population due to the increased risk of violence toward transgender and other individuals apart of the LGBTQ community. Client Number Two Client Number Two is a 54-year-old male, who has been in and out of the justice system, with a history of 3 violent felony convictions in the previous 10 years. Client Number Two has a documented

history of mental health concerns. Client Number Two also takes heart medication for documented health issues that require additional management with a provider. Client Number Two is recently divorced from his significant other, which could pose a concern to Client Number Two’s mental health. I recommend Client Number Two be placed on a moderate suicide watch until which time Client Number Two can be evaluated by a mental health professional to assess his mental health state with his incarceration and his recent divorce and continue with the treatment recommended by the mental health professional to help manage Client Number Two’s violent tendencies which lead to his violent criminal history. With all the history previously mentioned, I also recommend Client Number Two be placed in an Administrative Segregation Housing Cell to be under a more comprehensive supervision within housing guidelines reviewed by the Administrative Separation Committee of the State of Texas (Offender Orientation Handbook, 2017 , p. 6 ). This will ensure Client Number Two will be observed more often than in a general population setting, which may feed into Client Number Two’s propensity for violence. Additionally, Client Number Two will also be observed for any indicators of any potential suicidal tendencies which have the increased risk of appearing with the recent development of Client Number Two’s divorce from his significant other. The administrative segregation setting can be a temporary assignment until a full evaluation can be completed with Client Number Two to ensure he will not be at risk of being violent in a general population setting with other inmates. The one concern of being in the administrative segregation setting would be the potentially negative mental health impact on Client Number Two being sequestered away from interaction from fellow inmates currently housed in the facility. With this in mind, I would also recommend Client Number Two be considered for reassignment to the general population once it is demonstrated Client Number Two can behave in accordance with the Offender Orientation Handbook Rules and Policies, which would allow him to be considered for group counseling for coping with his anger, which will provide Client Number Two with a healthy and constructive environment for inmate interaction.
