Textbook: Stewart, Calculus, 5th ed.
Schedule: Chapters 1 through 6.
Tests: There will be five quizzes (each 20 minutes long), two midterms (each 50
minutes long), one final exam. The first quiz is on Jan 18th, the first midterm on Feb
24, second midterm on Apr 3rd. This schedule may be adjusted.
Grade: You can earn up to 400 points: each quiz is 20 points, each midterm is 60
points, the final exam is 180 points.
Grade scale: 360 - 400 A
320 - 359 B
280 - 319 C
240 - 279 D
below 240 F

°extra credit: You can earn up to an additional 40 points by doing the
online ”iLrn”-homework. See the handout on registration and usage of ”iLrn”.
Course Policy: There are no make-up tests. In the case of a legitimate excuse
(death in the family, severe medical problems, official UCF functions) the points of the
missed test will be added to the weight of your final. NC grades are given out at the
instructor’s discretion but you must have taken all the tests and your overall score is
not lower than 200.
Practice problems will be assigned but not collected. Your tests will contain
problems similar to the ones assigned or similar to the ones presented in class.
Extra help: The MATH LAB is available free of charge to all students enrolled in
this class. The Math Lab is located in MAP 113 and is open Monday-Thursday 9am
to 7pm, Friday 9am to 3 pm and on Sunday 2pm to 6pm.
Note: Some of the problems in the tests are similar to the ones presented in class.
Regular attendance is proven to be an important factor for your success in the class.
Please inform the instructor in advance if you plan to miss a class, if you need to leave
the class early or if you are expecting to be late.
Cheating: Anyone who compromises the integrity of the tests will subject to harsh
penalties, up to and including a grade F for the course.
Important dates: withdrawal deadline - March 3; last day of classes - Apr 24;
final exam -April 28.
