CS113: Academic Strategies for the Business Professional Unit 10 Writing Assignment Unit 10 Writing Assignment Because I have taken Academic Strategies for the Business Professional, I’m more equipped to be successful both in college and in my future career. This class has affected my development as a student and has introduced me to many useful key concepts I will continue to use. This class has affected my development as a student by introducing me to the importance of goalsetting, becoming an effective writer and understanding my personal learning style. I graduated high school fifteen years ago and without this class teaching familiarizing me with strategies of successful students, my grades would’ve been much lower in my other classes. Before this class, I never set goals but now I understand their importance. By setting short-term

and long-term goals my focus is sharper and I feel empowered and in control. Because of this class, I’m also a more effective writer. I’ve saved precious time by pre-writing and my drafts are more organized and concise. This class also helped me to understand my personal learning style. Knowing your personal learning style is important because it helps you to retain information based on your strengths and weaknesses and will help you learn at the best of your ability. Along with helping me to be a better student, these study methods also many me a strong candidate to enter the business world. After reflecting on this class, I believe that the concepts of time management, problem- solving and networking have made a strong candidate to enter the business world. Because of this class, I understand these skills aren’t only important in academia but in the workforce. According to the Unit 2 Reading, learning to appropriately manage time can help individuals reach their goals and keep stress at bay. Practicing proper time management in the business world will help me to increase my productivity and produce a higher quality of work. Problem- solving is also animportant skill to have when entering the business world as it shows the ability to think analytically and critically. The vitality of most businesses relies on employees who can problem solve.A good problem-solver can help fix what’s broken and improve processes that may increase production. My ability to network will also makes me an asset for the business world. By networking, I can gain valuable insight into my profession. As I move forward, I will take these concepts and more to help me achieve my short-term and long-term goals. To help achieve my short-term and long-term goals educational goals, I will use the concepts of networking and S.M.A.R.T. goals. To build my professional network I will use resources that were suggested in the Unit 8 Reading. I will continue to endeavor to build relationships with students in my classes as this will help me in the future when it comes to

looking for a job or needing insights into our profession. This will also be useful for peer review of future business-related classes. As suggested in the Unit 8 Reading, I will try to open myself to opportunities to network by volunteering and internships. To ensure my success, I will also employ the concept of S.M.A.R.T. goals. Because S.M.A.R.T. goals are specific, measurable, action-oriented, realistic, and timed, it will help me keep my focus when other life distractions interfere. It will give me a sense of direction and empower me to reach my goals. Academic Strategies for the Business Professional has affected my development as a student, prepared me for the business world, and has given me the tools necessary to be a successful student and employee. As I continue with college and enter the career I want, I will continue to apply the concepts I learned in this class to reach my short-term and long-term goals, think critically, and problem solve.
