PAINTS prepared by: Zainab Ather BINDERS: Binder is a main component of paint. Binder are the polymers forming continuous film on the substrate surface. It is responsible for good adhesion of the coating of to the substrate. The binders hold the pigment particle together in paints. Some common binders are : • Acrylic resins • Phenolic resins PIGMENTS:  Pigments are coloring material added to Paint impart the desire shade and color  It protect the substrate from ultra violet light  It change the paint appearance and properties Pigments commonly used in paints such as • Zinc oxide (ZnO) • Titanium dioxide (TiO2) SOLVENTS :  IT Is also called thinners  Solvent is a medium where the binder, pigment, and additives are disperse in molecular forms  It is also used for modification of the paint viscosity required for the application method such as brush, roller, dip, spray. ADDITIVES: Additives are small amount of substances modifying the paint properties for example • Plasticizers: increase the paints flexibility • Uv Stabilizers: it provides the stability of paints under ultra violet light • Defoamer : it prevent the formation of air bubbles in the coating. OIL PAINTS: These paints have white lead as the base and applied in three coats, namely, primer, undercoat, and finishing coat. Oil paints are cheap and easy to apply, but its life is adversely affected by the presence of dampness while applying. ANTI CORROSIVE PAINTS: This paint is used for protecting iron and steel surfaces from corrosion.  It is black in color, cheap and also durable. ALUMINIUM PAINTS: This paint consist of finely ground aluminium particles suspended in oil. It is widely used for painting gas tanks, oil tanks, radiators and water pipes. WATER PAINTS: Those paints which are made up of pigments suspended in a water based solution. EMULSION PAINTS: It contain pigments like cobalt and magnese and binding material like polystyrene and PVA. This paints dries very quickly with in 15 min. this paint is durable and retains its color for a long time.  Oil paints  It hold the particles of pigment together in paints  Aluminium paints REFERENCES Definition Of Paints https://en.Wikipedia.org/wiki/paint Constituents Of Paints http://en.Wikipedia.org/wiki/paint Types Of Paints http://gharpedia.com Uses Of Paints http://glory-paints/painttips.html
