EDU-315 Family and Community in a Supportive Learning Environment T6-Promoting Equal Partnerships Dear Brighter Bites, Hello, my name is Casandra Kendrick, and I am a Pre-K teacher at Rosa Parks Elementary. I am reaching out to seek assistance with the difficulties we are experiencing at our school. As you are aware, there is a high cost of living in our area, which is causing many of our families to face difficulties, such as failing to provide their children enough food. My hope is to form a collaboration with your organization to assist establish a connection between our school and the families we serve. “Collaboration between communities and schools promote academic performance for children, fosters community relationships, and supports learning, (O’Keefe, 2011).” By working with our school, your organization will benefit our students that require enough food each day to support their learning and academic achievement, in addition to helping struggling parents. Kids receive free breakfast and lunch at school, but when they get home, they find little to no food, and they have to wait until they go back to school the next day to eat. "These difficulties can strain a child's emotions and contribute to loss of focus or acting out at school," (Bennett, 2019). Working together with our school, we can make sure that every
child gets enough food, encourage learning , and provide their families the assurance that they will have food to eat at home. Our school would like to request that as part of this relationship, we take certain concrete steps toward reaching this objective. We would like to meet with your team first to discuss how to identify potential students who could benefit from this support, as well as how to communicate with their parents in a way that does not make them feel ashamed of their situation.
