Old Major - In "Animal Farm," Old Major serves as the catalyst for the animals' rebellion against human oppression, articulating a vision of equality and solidarity that inspires his fellow animals to rise up against their human masters. Despite his advanced age and declining health, Old Major's eloquent speech ignites a sense of revolutionary fervor among the animals, galvanizing them to overthrow their human oppressors and establish a society based on the principles of Animalism. However, Old Major's idealistic vision is ultimately perverted by the pigs who seize control after the revolution, betraying the very principles they claimed to uphold. Through Old Major's character, Orwell explores the power of rhetoric and ideology in mobilizing movements for social change, as well as the dangers of charismatic leadership and the potential for revolutionary ideals to be corrupted by those hungry for power.
