Gardon, Jerome Q. Llorca, Rosalyn T. Paraños, Adelyn R. Sapinoso, Ciara Mae T. January 2023 Kjj Chapter 1 The Problem Background of the Study Career choice, it is when you undergo series of tests or processes that helps you define your career path. Individuals have interest in of affinity towards certain career fields of occupations. It is possible to differentiate several factors of career choice based upon the degree and limitations of societal constraints. Graduating students from secondary schools may not have solid decision on where to go in college and what degree program they may possibly take. They are planning to enter college without clear idea of what career to pursue for their future (Ramirez & Dizon, 2014). They may sometimes consider the people and the information they received within their environment. There are several factors that may affect the decision of students and parents, where it can be a good source of insight for higher education institutions that would offer quality services that will suit to the needs, expectations and demands of the community. Academic institutions sought to observe the requirements of the customers, prospective students and other clients like industry partners when preparing an educational program (Hrnciar & Madzík, 2013). Kjj SCOPE AND DELIMITATION This study aimed to and understand the important factors that affect the Career Choice of Humanities and Social Sciences students of Palsong National High School. The study focuses in identifying the possible degrees that the HUMSS students would take after their SHS years and the factors that affects the learners decision in their specific degrees. The respondents included eighty (80) students of HUMSS Grade 11 and 12 among the 165 total population of students. The researchers conducted the study during school year 2022-2023. Kjj Chapter 2 Review of Related Literature A career choice is important because it determines your success in the next stages of your life (PAMS, nad). Many factors affect career choices of high school students. Identifying these factors would give parents, educators, and industry an idea as to where students place most of their trust in career selection process. According to Super (1990), the choice of career track will define the content of the subjects a student will take in Grades 11 and 12. Albia et. al., (2016), career selection is one of many important choices students will make in determining future plans. Personality plays an important role in the choosing of the right course. Student must take seriously the role grades play in limiting opportunities in the future (Splaver, 2000). He also stated, “It is important for you to have a good understanding of yourself, your personality, if you are to make intelligent upcoming plans”. Bandura et al, (2001), stated that personality and interest are not the only criteria for choosing a career. An individual’s aptitude and intellectual abilities are equally of great importance. An aptitude is a potential for success in an area after undergoing some training but a layman may define aptitude as a flair for something. The context in which people live, their personal aptitudes, and educational attainment are other things that do influence people’s career choice. Kjj Splaver (2000) said "personality" plays an important part in the choosing of the right career. A student's personality must be self-motivated type, as to examine career possibilities from early on in their lives and not the deferring type that waits till they are grateful to decide. Students must take truly the role grades play in limiting opportunities in the future. Opportunity is the third factor that has formed career choices for students. Opportunity may influence how students have observed their future in terms of the sensible chance of a future in particular career fields. The issue of poverty has played an important determining role in the opportunities accessible to all. Career Decision Making. It takes thought and preparation when it comes to career decision making. Career maturity, career decidedness, decision status, career planning, and career expectations were classified as aspects of it. (Bhalla, Vidhi, 2013). Various factors can affect a student's career preference for Senior High School as well as in college. According to Hewitt (as cited by Edwards and Quinter, 2011), factors which affect the career preference of an individual "can either be intrinsic or intrinsic, or both" Most individuals choose a career based on what their parents prefer, others follow the opportunities that have opened for them, others choose a career based on what they actually want without considering how much they would earn, while others select a career that would give them high income.
