Section A: Histology. Answer Question 1 and ONE other question

  1. Compare and contrast the mucosa from the various regions of the GIT.

OR

Give a brief description of each of the following. You may use a well labelled diagram with a few explanatory sentences in lieu of a written description if you wish.

a. Hepatic acinus b. Renal glomerulus c. Seminiferous tubule

  1. Write an essay on the histological structure of the skin. Include in your answer a detailed description of the epidermis and the dermis and a brief mention of the general structures of the appendages, their location and their function
  2. Describe the structure and composition of blood. Include in your answer: a. Explanation of the concept of Haematocrit and its value b. Indication of the amounts of red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets per microliter of blood c. The relative amounts of the different types of white blood cells

d. The histological features of red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets

Section B: Embryology Answer Question 4 and ONE other question

b. Indicate the embryonic layer from which mesonephros, mesonephric duct and paramesonephric duct originate. Explain briefly their role in renal and genital development, as well as their developmental fate
