Grade: Grade 6 Accountable to: Dorset Careers Hub Strategic Lead Job Purpose Dorset is proud of its £18 billion contribution to the UK economy and its robust employment and business survival rates. However, like many parts of the UK, Dorset’s productivity rate lags behind the national average and we face renewed global competition in a post-Brexit economy. Despite this, Dorset’s economy is resilient, growing, and has the potential to deliver greater prosperity for Dorset and beyond for generations to come. Dorset LEP’s modern industrial vision is to double the productivity and economic output of the county to £35.6 billion over the next twenty years, generating 80,000 jobs, building around 78,000 new homes, and creating a local economy that is sustainable, innovative and inclusive in the process. We will achieve this by: • Securing, coordinating and enabling growth investment funding for the region • Engaging with Government, business and stakeholders to support policy development and delivery • Enabling rural productivity growth and supporting key and high-growth sectors • Boosting the local economy of Dorset through increased innovation, business support, skills and careers development and inward investment. The Dorset LEP’s overall aim is to deliver economic growth through business enterprise whilst safeguarding the environment. Its fundamental objective is to facilitate improved productivity of businesses in Dorset, whilst also encouraging the creation and growth of new ones. It will support a strongly performing, productive and sustainable economy, characterised by boosting higher paid and better skilled jobs. Enhancing the skills of Dorset’s current and future workforce (including through the work of the Dorset Careers Hub and Dorset Enterprise Adviser Network (EAN) to meet Gatsby Benchmarks which are the gold standard in careers advice for young people) is critical in this endeavour. The Dorset Careers Hub Engagement Enterprise Coordinator is a key team member, working with other Enterprise Coordinators in the local EAN or Careers Hub to establish and nurture relationships with businesses/ sector bodies, in the local area. Working closely with the Skills Lead and/or Hub Lead, the position holder will ensure the local Labour Market Information for Dorset LEP is embedded in the employer strategy, build links with local businesses that represent the range of opportunities in the area, including growth sectors. This work will support local employers to gain an understanding of the future workforce, while supporting independent choice and supporting positive outcomes for young people. Main Responsibilities Enterprise Advisers • Lead on the recruitment of Enterprise Advisers, encouraging diversity in recruitment and tracking the representation of local sectors. • Responsible for the smooth induction of Enterprise Advisers and for tracking the time to match them to a suitable school / college, with a target of no longer than 3 months. • Responsible for tracking 100% completion of all DBS checks for EAs prior to them working with a school / college and within no more than 3 months of confirming them in post. • Overview of the source of all EA referrals to support the generation of additional EAs where there are opportunities. Strategic Employer Relationships • Support and encourage all employers to provide opportunities for young people, for example through the Give an Hour campaign. • Lead on relationships with Cornerstone Employers including enabling Cornerstone Employers to understand and support local needs, aligning activity with Dorset LEP priorities, targeting disadvantage and building sustainable relationships. • Engaging with LEP-led employer groups including Skills Advisory Panels, for example. Employer Encounters • Maximise employer encounters across a wide range of sectors and demonstrate alignment of these encounters with local Labour Market Information • Act as an ambassador for the CEC including raising the profile of the EAN through utilising existing communication and marketing channels in order to engage with key local stakeholders. Apprenticeship focus • Promote opportunities for young people to hear about apprenticeships and vocational training. • Track and monitor apprenticeships take-up. Implementation and Impact • Negotiate commitment from stakeholders. • Evaluate the impact of the EAs recruited and track the reach of the employer encounters. • Identify and share best practice in employer engagement either through local forums, national stage, in person and in writing.
