JUS 101: Short Paper – The Hiring Process I am choosing to write about the hiring process for a probation officer in Indiana. There are many requirements that need to be met before becoming a probation officer. Educational requirements, the application requirements and the Indiana’s probation officer certification exam are all parts of the hiring process. It is much more complicated to apply and become a probation officer for Indiana because it’s such a demanding job. The position entails many different cases and lots of trouble people. This job is not for the faint of heart. First, you must acquire a bachelor’s degree in one of the following fields, psychology, criminal justice, social work, or any other field approved for a bachelor’s degree by an accredited college or university,(Probation Officer Career in Indiana). Even after you become a probation officer, you are required to have at least 12 hours of continuing education each year. This helps to keep updated on the new rules and regulations, if there are any, and to help maintain all of the certificates needed. Next is the application process and this is where everything because intense. The person applying for this job must be 21 years of age, and American citizen and of good moral character. If those minimum requirements are met, then the rest of the process can continue. The application must be filled out to take with you to the exam portion of the hiring process. Along with filling out the application, you must also, Pay a non-refundable $50.00 application fee Have an official transcript from the college where the B.A. degree was obtained A photocopy of a government-issued ID
JUS 101: Short Paper – The Hiring Process recommended that the program be finished within the first 6 months, but it must be completely within a year. Judges, probation officers and other professionals in the field will be in attendance, and the topics being talked about are, adult and juvenile procedures, techniques and skills of conducting investigations, supervision of probationers, and training and skills for career development. This conference is paid for by the Indiana Judicial Center and typically runs from a Tuesday morning to the following Friday afternoon. All-in-all, there are many requirements to be met for the role of a probation officer in Indiana. The hiring process to become a probation officer is very intense and thorough because it weeds out all of the applicants that might not have the right intentions, or just can’t handle the job itself, (Wells, 2018). Having people who are right for the job make for a better rehabilitative process.
