DEFINITION 1 a discipline that used scientific methods in attempt to understand and explain people's thought, feeling, and behavior and influenced in the presence of others. TERM 2

Evolutionary Psychology

DEFINITION 2 Based on the writings of Charles Darwin, who theorized that genetic changes in a population of a species over many generations due to the interaction of variables. TERM 3

Survey Method

DEFINITION 3 Primary advantage: Able to predict the outcome Primary disadvantage: There is a response bias and one cannot establish causality. TERM 4

Experimental Method

DEFINITION 4 Primary advantage: Able to determine causality Primary disadvantage: Questioned if it is artificial since the experiment is being manipulated TERM 5

Observational Method

DEFINITION 5 Primary advantage: provides opportunity to study behavior in it's wholeness Primary disadvantage: cannot determine how variables are related to one another. Observer Bias.

DEFINITION 6 an educated guess or prediction about the nature of things based upon a theory- logical implication of a theory TERM 7

Positive and Negative Correlation

DEFINITION 7 Positive: When one variable increases, the other increases. Negative: When one variable increases, the other decreases. TERM 8

Independent and Dependent Variable

DEFINITION 8 Independent: the variable that is being manipulated in a variable. Dependent: the varible is being effected by the manipulated variable to measure an experiment. TERM 9

What factors influence prosocial behavior with

children

DEFINITION 9 Observational learning or modeling can help teach children and influence prosocial behavior. Teaches children to engage in helpful actions, then shows them what they can receive in return. TERM 10

Mood influence for prosocial behavior

DEFINITION 10 Studies show that good moods lead to prosocial behavior. (good mood effect) Feeling bad may even result in prosocial behavior because they want a feeling of escape. Although, extreme bad moods (depression) may not result in prosocial behavior because they are so focused on themselves. Negative State Relief mode: Is when a person is in a bad mood, but if the benefits are high and the costs are low, they are more likely to help out.
