of the Moot Court competition in memory of Late
Shri. Vijay A. Chavan, Assistant Professor of our
prestigious college.
About Late Shri.Vijay A.Chavan
Shri.Vijay A.Chavan, our erst while colleague, was a
truly popular presence on our campus. One of the
most cherished amongst students and highly
respected by his colleagues for his impeccable
integrity. A very helpful and friendly academic, his

joined the institutionsin 2012 as an assistant
professor in law faculty. He taught Business
Regulatory Frame work to the students of T.Y. BCom.
Orgination
It was Late Shri.Vijay A.Chavan’s idea to initiate the
Moot Court Competition in our college - an uncommon
event indeed for Commerce colleges-with the
exemplary objective of enhancing our students’
drafting, reasoning and presentation skills. Started as
a classroom activity, gradually it transformed into a
popular college-level activity following Prof. Chavan's
able guidance. To commemorate his multi-faceted
contribution to our college, we, his colleagues, have

e Preliminary Round:
In the Preliminary Round, each team shall compulsorily
ete et tae aT ee Se ee

accordance with the lots chosen by the organizers of
the team at the orientation session. One participant
from each court room with highest total marks in
Preliminary Round will proceed to compete in the Final
Round.
e Finals:
The participants will be allotted either the
Plaintiff/Appellant or Defendant/Respondent side in
the final round.
Professional Attire
As per the rules of the Bar Council of India paricipants
are required to wear white shirt, black trouser, black
blazer.

Memorial / Written Submissions
1]. Participant must prepare separate memorials for
both sides: 1 for appellant and 1 for respondent.
2. Once the memorials are submitted: no revisions,

¢ Margin: one-inch on all sides of each page
e Font size: should be 12
e Font type: Times New Roman
e Line spacing: 1.5
¢ Footnotes (if any): must be in font size 10, single
spaced
¢ Page numbering: In the middle section of footer on
each page.
6. Covers must be placed on briefs as follows:

6. Incase of internet connectivity issues, the time limit
can be extended. If the problem still persists, the scoring
will be done by considering the completed arguments of
the participant facing connectivity issues.
7. The oral arguments must be confined to the issues

8. There will be a minimum of two judges in each room for

9. The score sheets for all the rounds will be sent to the
coordinating committee by the judges of the respective
rounds through e-mail after the completion of each round.
10. Computers and other electronic devices cannot be
used during competition. Notes/points noted on paper can
be used.
11. All participants should be visible on camera throughout
the debate. Current speaker should be visible and clearly
identified on camera while speaking.

¢ All participants are expected to compete with
courtesy and have ethical conduct. Foul/vulgar
language or abusive rhetoric and violation of rules
will not be permitted.
¢ No ad hominem-attacking your opponent’s

references to religion or communities will not be
tolerated. The judges will be the arbiter of disputes
except when it is necessary for the coordinator to
intervene and make an official determination.
¢ Completely new arguments and new points should not
be brought up in the rebuttals. The participants need to

¢ The bailiff /time-keeper will alert the participant if
time limit has been crossed but the participants also
need to time themselves.

¢ The decision of the Judges shall be final and no disputes

«Incase of a tie, Memorial marks will be considered to
determine the winner.
¢ The organizers reserve the right to take an appropriate

¢e The organizers decision as regards the interpretation of

¢ The Memorial lecture will begin at 8:30am followed by the
commencement of the competition at 9:30am.
