Download Writing Extended Abstracts of Scholarly Research Articles on Media and Politics - Prof. Ka and more Study notes Communication in PDF only on Docsity! ABSTRACTS Due: Sept. 22 1-2 pages each. Abstracts less than a full page in length SINGLE- SPACED are unacceptable. Your assignment is to write 2 extended abstracts of scholarly research articles. An abstract is a summary that pulls out the most salient information from a research article. When you search through databases it’s likely you have seen short abstracts. Also, most research articles are preceded in their print versions by a short abstract. Your task is to write a longer, more thorough abstract for each of two research articles you find on the subject of media and politics. Scholarly articles can be dense and hard to understand, so be sure and choose articles that you understand well enough to work with them. This is not an assignment to try and bang out a few hours before class. Here is what you should do for each abstract: 1. Select a relevant article of interest from an appropriate journal (see list below) 2. At the top of the page (after your name and a title) provide a complete citation of the article using APA or MLA style. This is the one writing type where the citation appears at the beginning (like a book review). 3. Your abstract should identify the research question or topic, the methodology used by the author, and the findings, or conclusions, the author found through doing the research. It’s similar to a short abstract except that you amplify the discussion of these elements. 4. In addition, you should comment on how this article relates to what we have discussed in class about media & politics. 5. Do not use quotes. Your discussion should be your interpretation of what you read in the article and what the author says. Please submit your papers to Tegrity in advance and run it through the plagiarism function. This will assist you in making sure you are using your own words to interpret the article. This requires thought rather than laziness!! 6. Type these abstracts using SINGLE SPACING. Be sure to leave space between the title, the citation, and the body.
