Although minority stress theory describes how stress and coping shape health among LGBTQ individuals, it does not provide a nuanced perspective on why some LGBTQ people develop substance use disorders, whereas most do not. LGBTQ youths initiate substance use earlier and escalate use more rapidly than their non-LGBTQ peers (14–17). How youths cope with LGBTQ-related stressors during identity development may shape substance use disorders in adulthood. For example, adolescents who employ avoidant c

Lesson 1:Introduction to Media and

Information Literacy In this lesson, I learned the importance of understanding the different types of literacy to media and information. Highlights the value of knowing media literacy, information literacy, and technology literacy. Media Literacy- form your own opinion without relying only on what social media portrays. Information Literacy- ability to find information and use it effectively. Technology Literacy- A person’s ability to effectively use technology tools.

Lesson 2: The Evolution of

Traditional to New Media How humanity has transitioned from carving stones to the development of electronics. Learning the progress of media, a time where our only source of information was from newspapers, then moved forward to the inventions of electronics, and now to the digital age where humans relied on the internet and computers. Distinguishing the difference between traditional media and new media. We can say that traditional media is when we transmit information without the internet or any digital platforms. New media is when information is transmitted digitally.

Lesson 3:Types of

Media

Knowing the types of media, the print media, broadcast

media, and new media. The three help us gain or share

information but in a different way. Print media is written and

physically distributed. Broadcast media consist of programs like

radio and television by networks or stations. New media is

delivered through the use of digital platforms.

Lesson 4: Media and

Information Sources

Since information can come from everywhere, it’s important to
know if it’s reliable or not, and in this lesson, I learned where we can
find information. Indigenous Knowledge and Indigenous Media,
information relayed formally and informally among kin groups and
communities. Library, from reading books or references but it’s not
limited to traditional books. The Internet is one click away from
information. There are also other sources that can also be found
from the primary source, secondary source, and tertiary source.

Lesson 5:Media and

Information Language

Connecting from our previous lesson about media and

information literacy. This means the ability to interpret

what is being portrayed and its symbolism. How a certain

angle can help us understand the situation more, how

music can interpret the emotions of the characters, and

etc. In conclusion, this lesson is about conveying

subliminal messages.

Lesson 6: Legal, Ethical,

and Societal Issues in Media and Information This lesson shows how to protect a creator's inventions, design, brand name, or literary and artistic work. The things mentioned are called intellectual property and have classification forms: copyright, patent, trademark, industrial design, and geographical indications. That’s why it’s important to cite your sources or paraphrase to avoid plagiarism. Although the internet has helped us in many ways it also caused harm to society. Classism has always been a problem and with the advancement of the internet, a lot of poor countries or communities are not given the same resources as those who are in the higher hierarchy. Accessibility is the reason why the internet is so great but with people not knowing their limits on sharing their opinions, it can cause harm for someone. Also, people being dependable on their devices is a problem.

Lesson 7:Opportunities,

Challenges, and power of Media & Information In the digital age, media has influenced the economy, education, society, and politics, with it being accessible for almost everyone, it helped people for more job opportunities and fuelled the global economy. Technology comes in handy for teachers and students especially, during the pandemic, to continue our education. As a society, the media has given us the platform to voice out our opinions for politics, practicing democracy digitally. Although the media provided opportunities, it can’t be denied the threats and risks of the media. As mentioned about accessibility, people can ruin someone’s reputation, express hatred, and even invade people’s privacy.

Lesson 8: Current and

Future Trends of Media and Information

Technology and media also go to trends to market

their product and provide more ways to share

information. Wearable technology has become a trend

like smartwatches and many more. Online courses

have recently caused a stir for students as this is far

from what traditional education is. Giving more

opportunities for people to learn at their own pace.

Lesson 9: Media and

Information Literate Individual

Being on the internet can test how you handle
information. This lesson highlights the influence of the
media in sharing information and interpreting
informations.
The media can be a great tool to exercise your creative
skill, critical analysis skills, and security skills, as it gives
us the power to share our talents, opinion, and
challenges us how we interpret.
The media is also a great easy way to connect with
people with the same interest.

Information comes in different forms and

sources. Some use words or text to present their

information. Creativity can be a tool to convey your

message that can be expressed through art, films,

music, and many more. Digital platforms such as

Twitter and Reddit can be used to share or learn

information in a much more diverse community.
