A personal account of how an individual's personality, as assessed through various tests such as myers-briggs type indicator and big five, influences their goal setting and achievement. Personality Assessment Walden University PSYC 6220: Psychology of Personality RUNNING HEAD: Personality Assessment Part 1: Applying Personality Assessment Results to Personal and Professional Goals My personal SMART goal was to "To arrange and attend at least 4 social events either at my house or in the community per month." This is a goal I was given by my therapist. We have slowly been adding more days to my social calendar so that now we are up to four days a month. My academic SMART goal was to "get ahead and finish in both of my classes early so that I can have my 2 classes completed before I go on my cruise." My flight for my cruise leaves on November 4thand returns on the 11th. All of my discussions and assignments need to be in by the 3rd. On the return flight on the 11th, I will be able to do my week 11 responses for both classess. With my personal SMART goal what will make this more difficult is that according to the test similar to the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator I am an INFJ-T. The "I" stands for introvert. "Introverted individuals tend to prefer fewer, yet deep and meaningful, social interactions and often feel drawn to calmer environments." (16Personalities, 2020) Due to this I know that I need to schedule social events either at my house where it is calm or at places in my community that is calm without a lot of loud music or people. I also should make plans with people who can give me the deep and meaningful social interactions I need.
According to the Big Five (2017) test I do have slight, but some extroversion tendencies which I see in myself at times. Which is also borne out by the Type A quiz which said, "Sometimes you are as laidback as a Type B; in other situations, you can be a high achiever or express impatience and hostility like a Type A. Either you adjust your behavior depending on the situation, or you tend to have a moderate attitude." (Psychology Today, 2020) Unlike a pure introvert sometimes I do get a charge out of social 3 RUNNING HEAD: Personality Assessment situations, so if I can figure out what the common denominator of those type of social situations, I can schedule more of those. My second goal of finishing my classwork a week and a half prior to the end of class is a goal that I am ahead on, being that I am almost done working on week 10 while in week 8. I should have finished this goal by early next week or maybe even this weekend. This difficult goal was made possible by several aspects of my personality as according to the tests I performed for this assignment. Myers-Briggs Type Indicator type test the "T" stands for turbulent which makes me very success-driven, a perfectionist, and a person who is eager to improve. (16Personalities, 2020) According to the Type A test it said that "with a bit of drive, perfectionism and competitiveness to keep you going, you likely are able to achieve many of your goals in life without pushing yourself to the point of exhaustion." (Psychology Today,
organize well and be thorough with my planning, especially for my 2nd goal of finishing my schoolwork in time to go on my cruise. 4 RUNNING HEAD: Personality Assessment How Culture Plays a Role I was raised by my hippie mother who was very abusive towards me both physically and emotionally. I think this made me an introvert in two ways. Firstly, I wasn't allowed to have friends, so my social intelligence is lacking. Secondly, it made me a weird kid who no one wished to be friends with, so I was very isolated. I learned to enjoy my own company. I also was expected to do well in school and so it was drilled into me to be organized so that I could succeed. "While childhood trauma won't change your personality type, it can change the result you get on a type indicator (personality quiz, the official MBTI®, etc.,). One of the reasons this happens is that trauma can impact how you use, develop, and show your type preferences." (Storm,
