Research Paper Prompt Begley, ENGL 202 Fall 2010 Your final project will utilize all the skills you’ve learned in this class. You’ll be required to find sources related to your topic, be able to critique those sources in order to determine whether or not they are helpful to your project, and synthesize them into one coherent argument, requiring you to summarize their main points. Although I’d prefer you to craft an argumentative research paper, I know from talking with some of you that a few of the topics are more informative in nature. If you can’t make your topic into an argument, that’s fine, just make sure that I know ahead of time so that when I read your paper I’m not looking for the elements of an argument. Your paper needs to be between eight and ten pages—the approximate equivalent of 2,000 to 2,500 words. The papers should strictly follow MLA or APA in terms of formatting and citations, and they should use at least five different sources from different areas. I don’t want you to rely solely on internet sources, book sources, or journal sources. The first half of your research paper is due Friday, December 3 for peer review, and the final draft is due Friday, December 10.
