Memoir

CHILDHOOD

On a sunny Monday morning in 2010, was my first day of school. My mom, full of excitement, had meticulously prepared all my school supplies. She woke me up at 4:30 AM, and a hearty breakfast awaited us at the table. Despite her joy, I felt an overwhelming fear; the thought of going to school terrified me. I spent the entire morning in tears, pleading with my mom not to make me go. However, she insisted that I had to be ready before 5:30 AM because our classes began at 6 AM. We arrived in my school at 5:40 am; my mom was looking for my teacher and classroom. So when the time my mom was already found my classroom and teacher, she immediately told my teacher to take care of me. But, as I entered the classroom I run so fast towards my mom and cried very hard since I don’t want her to leave me alone. Since, I have this separation anxiety wherein I have a fear of being separated from my loved one. My mom informed me that she would wait outside our room because she wasn't allowed inside. Reluctantly, I agreed, finding comfort in the fact that she was nearby. However, within a minute, she disappeared from my sight. I panicked and I frantically searched the entire campus for her, even asking a guard if he had seen her, but he said no. I am overwhelmed, I broke down in tears, resorting to telling the guard a fabricated tale about a stomach ache, hoping he would let me go home. Unfortunately, my teacher intervened, stating that I couldn't leave as our lesson was not yet complete. The entire morning was filled with various dramatic incidents. I didn’t listen to my teacher, and I just wanted to go home and see my mom. My classmate asked me if why am I crying but I simply continued sobbing without responding. After six hours, my mom arrived at school to take me home. I burst into tears once more, questioning why she had left me. My teacher informed my mom about what happened after she left. My mom chuckled, reassuring me that it was normal to cry but emphasized the importance of being brave next time. Before heading home, my mom and I stopped at Jollibee. She treated me chicken, ice cream, and fries to cheer me up. As we enjoyed our meal, she reminded me not to cry and encouraged me to pay attention to my teacher during class. Despite my naughty behavior, my mom expressed her happiness about my first day at school. She advised me to behave better and listen to my teacher’s instructions next time. That's how my first day unfolded. After our meal, we headed home, getting ready for my second day of school.
