Sourcing and Logistics Case Studies SCMG201 Principles of Supply Chain Management Project 3 Case Studies Chapter 6: Sourcing Suggest steps Brandt should follow to begin the EDP process. When it comes to the EDP process. Brandt should evaluate the inventory that is required to operate. Brandt should cross reference this master list. Next, it would be in his best interest to systematically investigate the electronic suctions and then identify the items that are still in need or that happen to have a low quality on hand. Last, getting knowledge that can help process the e- auction. This will help him understand the basics ensuring the job is fulfilled to the best ability. Identify differences between traditional purchasing and use of e-auctions. How can Brandt use these differences to make his selection? What types of items would be best suited for purchase through e-auctions? A blue-collar process is entirely a traditional purchasing process. Everything happens to a robust platform that has no automation. However, the electronic Austin on the other hand happens to utilize the internet as a tool to organize and manage the sales. This tool helps the suppliers and also helps to define the terms of that purchase agreement. The internet can define the value of a certain product. It also can show the various suppliers and it’s price, delivery date with frequently used items. Brandt can use these differences to establish a better economics price and better quality. Assume Brandt has identified products to purchase through e-auctions. What steps does he need to take to conduct a successful e-auction?

Brandt should really try to focus on the certain steps it takes to purchase through e-auctions. The first thing to do is to ineftfy the requirements and distinct goals.Brandt should realize the process, minimize and resolute that cost while also maximizing the supplier base that enhances the process. The other steps entails selecting all the suppliers to avoid limiting the supply base that can fulfill the certain requirements it takes to purchase the contract. Brandt should also include documentation of all the requirements towards the success of the project. Last, monitor the actual process it takes to ensure everything is in order and allocate the appropriate awards while also reacting to those negotiations. What negative impact can e-auctions have on supplier relationships and how can Brandt ensures that they do not occur? Certain suppliers can underprice during the e-auction with the projection of negotiations after the contract is awarded to that certain person. This leads to better and pragmatic prospective suppliers. Suppliers also bid low prices during the e-auction process, with the idea in their head of reword the contract after it’s been awarded to that individual. The suppliers in th e-auction that actually don’t plan on participating, but want to gather market intelligence is another way of avoiding this concern (Sanders, 2017) There can be risks of a good suppliers relationship. Putting products on e-auctions will send signals to all current suppliers that the company is considering switching too. This can damage a supplier relationship and may not be the best strategy may do in an e-auction. He can let them know ahead to avoid the sticky situations. Brandt can just let them know that he is looking for other contracts. Case Study 5 - Strategic Solutions, Inc.

Identify the characteristics of an ideal information system for this logistics environment. Gather information on both EDI and TMS and compare their suitability for this environment. When it comes to logistical environments they are highly dynamic and different. It ends up calling for a versatile system which should be accompanied by some crazy characteristics. The IT system should be first vital and gives out essential info that makes working a whole lot easier. (Almalki, Al-fleit & Zafar, 2017). The network will have equally high levels of reliability, providing real information to the clients in the same client base. This binds the importance and precision of the information transmitted to all parties across the board. The last crucial aspect to the process is how cost effective it is. When it comes to technology it should try to stay within the budget frame of that business while still allowing the business to have a profit margin. EDI (Electronic data interchange) is a certain technology that helps move data from one system to the other. This type of technology helps simply document, load and send bills via electronic media. Help Scott decide if he should invest in either EDI or TMS, or both. Is there another type of system that you would believe would be better? What kind of benefits, including performance and customer satisfaction, can Scott expect by making these proposed changes to the business process? What would be in Scotts best interest would be to imprelent the EDI system that matches that certain efficiency. If he continues to make the EDI system the way it needs to be, Scott will be fine. This system can help him put together and achieve a reliable, fast, and concise communication system while at a reduced price in comparison to TMS. What Scott will have with this installation is real time shipping information on all their products to customers and this will help boost the overall customer satisfaction rate. Scott will also mimizae that actual documentation in his firm simply because it will all be within this system. This helps improve the efficiency and accuracy.

What are the critical considerations for Scott when deciding on the best possible systems to implement? Scott has to take in a couple considerations before making on what he wanted to do before implementing this system. First, he should put a lot more concern on the point of contact with that system, which must be a single point (Daresh, 2004) The system must functionality maintain the date that it must procive. The system also has to employ 3 different aspects that are essential to success. Those three points are reliability, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. The system should also be able to consume the least amount of resources in terms of electronic hardware and overall energy efficiency. References Almalki, M., Al-fleit, S., & Zafar, A. (2017).
