Regions of the Neck

Can be divided into different cervical triangles on the basis of the large bones and muscles in the area TERM 2

Sternocleidomastoid

DEFINITION 2 Large strap muscle that divides each side of the neck diagonally into anterior and posterior cervical triangles TERM 3

Anterior Cervical Triangle

DEFINITION 3 Two anterior cervical triangles, separated by a midline TERM 4

Posterior Cervical Triangle

DEFINITION 4 Found in the lateral region of the neck, posterior to the sternocleidomastoid muscle TERM 5

Thyroid

Cartilage

DEFINITION 5 The larynx; can be seen as an Adam's apple; the vocal cords or ligaments are attached to the posterior surface of the thyroid cartilage

Hyoid Bone

Located in the anterior midline, superior to the thyroid cartilage TERM 7

Submandibular Triangle

DEFINITION 7 Formed in the superior portion of each anterior cervical triangle by portions of the digastric muscle and the mandible TERM 8

Carotid Triangle

DEFINITION 8 Formed in the inferior portion of each anterior cervical triangle by the omohyoid muscle, which is inferior to the triangle TERM 9

Muscular Triangle

DEFINITION 9 Formed in the inferior portion of each anterior cervical triangle by the omohyoid muscle, which is superior to the triangle TERM 10

Submental Triangle

DEFINITION 10 Formed in the midline of the anterior cervical triangle by portions of the digastric muscle and hyoid bone

Occipital Triangle

Formed in the posterior cervical triangle by the omohyoid muscle, which is inferior to the triangle TERM 12

Subclavian Triangle

DEFINITION 12 Formed in the posterior cervical triangle by the omohyoid muscle, which is superior to the triangle
