In healthcare settings, many unexpected situations can occur that can cause chaos and end up harming the patients. In those circumstances, effective leadership is very important to ensure patient's safety. A good leader is someone who motivates and inspires their staff to provide the best patient care. “Transformational leaders are inspirational, compassionate, and have high ethical standards” (Mennella & Balderrama, 2018, p.1). Good leaders listen to their staff's concerns and take into account their opinions. They are supportive and encourage the team to grow and work together.
“Transformational leadership is key in creating supportive work environments in which nurses are structurally empowered to provide optimal patient care” (Boamah et al., 2018, p.181). So far, I have had little experience as a leader. As I gain more experience, I will develop my leadership skills and learn from my managers and my teammates. I would like to be perceived as a very open leader who works side by side with the staff and maintains open communication with them. One aspect of the TEACH values that would benefit the most my work environment is T: Teamwork (Chamberlain College of Nursing, 2021). In my unit, nurses work alongside technicians, dietitians, and social workers. Collaboration among us and open communication is very important to create a professional work environment where we provide proper and safe patient care. References: Boamah, S. A., Laschinger, H. K.
