Independence Day of India is the symbol of freedom of nation from the British rule. This day is warmly celebrated on 15th of August every year with great zeal and zest across the country.
Independence Day brings the memory of the year 1947 when India got independence for the British Empire. The day of independence 15th of August is declared as the national holiday in the country and it has great importance because it reminds us now we are a free nation that have the capacity of self-governing. It was 15th August 1947 when Jawaharlal Nehru raised Indian flag on the top of Red Fort which is located in Delhi and gave his famous speech. The independence was achieved after a long struggle of 300 years which shows the importance of this day and that is the reason this day is celebrated with great enthusiasm.
You can see our tri-colored flag everywhere on local and administrative buildings on the Independence Day. Each year the Prime Minister raises the flag on the Red fort of Delhi in a special ceremony.
Struggle for Indian Independence
The British ruled over India for almost 300 yrs. Britishers came here mainly for business purposes and established an East India Company which spread across all over the country and gradually all the country came under the British rule. Almost all the People of India upraised their voice against the cruel rule of British but it was 1857 when first war of independence was fought and it posed a first real threat towards British Empire. Some of the Great Leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Bipin Chandra Pal, Jawaharlal Nehru, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, Bal Ganghadar Tilak, Subhas Chandra Bose, Lala Lajpat Rai and many others fought selflessly and it was their tireless efforts that we are living in a free country today.
Celebrations of Indian Independence
Independence Day is celebrated as a festival with great enthusiasm across the country. The ceremony of Flag hoisting and other cultural programs are held in different parts of the country. On this special occasion the PM of India delivers his speech and address key achievements and talks about the development programs that can help in the progress of the country. Government buildings are lit up with lights and national flags are distributed among the citizen all over the country.
This special day gives people the opportunity to celebrate and pay tribute to the selfless efforts of all the freedom fighters and leaders that contribute towards our independence.
