In the farm all the animals live in slavery because of the way Farmer Jones treats them. One old boar, Old Major, delivers a speech to all the animals where he points out that their lives are difficult, all men are enemies, all animals are equal and one day there will be a rebellion, then he teaches the animal a song called “Beasts of England”.
The animals are happy, they work well together and more efficiently than Mr Jones ever did. Boxer the horse always makes a huge effort, his motto is 'I will work harder!'. The pigs begin to teach the others to read and write. It is hinted though that Napoleon steals some milk for himself after the first day's harvest.
Napoleon and Snowball often have two different ideas during gatherings. In fact, Snowball wants to teach animals to read and write in order to be able to teach them animalism. He simplifies it for the sheep in " four legs good, 2 legs bad". Napoleon on the other hand centers around the youth, precisely for this reason he begins to educate 9 puppies.
Jones attempts to recapture the farm in the battle that is called 'The Battle of the Cowshed'. Grants are given for fortitude to Snowball and Boxer. After that Snowball tries to convince the animals to build a windmill while Napoleon would like to invest the materials to build a food storage. when the animals were about to decide, Napoleon calls his now grown and trained dogs that chase away Snowball.
The food supplies begin to run out, the pigs decide to trade with the owners of the other farms. Given the shortage of food, some animals rebel, Napoleon decides to let them starve and eliminates anyone who disagrees with him. After moving into mr jones' house, pigs are more and more like humans. Napoleon then proclaims the farm republic and calls the elections, but is the only one to stand as a candidate.
The animals become thinner and thinner while the pigs gain more and more weight, they also learn to walk on two legs. Napoleon invites the men to the animal farm and, in front of them all, renames it "Estate Farm" (name of Mr. Jones' farm). The other animals, observing the crowd, cannot distinguish pigs from humans.
