1660 was a novelist,
pamphleteer and
journalist.
He was actively involved in
politics, supported the new king
after the James II deposition
In 1704 Defoe began publishing a
newspaper, The Review, in 1713 he
was briefly imprisoned for his political
pamphlets
In 1719 Daniel Defoe published
"Robinson Crusoe" which represent
the beginnig of his career as a novelist
and was followed by other novels,
Moll Flanders, Coloneal Jack and each
others
He was considered by the critics
as the first English novelist. He
died at the age of 70 from a debt
collector in a boarding house in
London while in hiding from him.
Defoe was absolutely a
businessman, he knew the needs
of a new middle-class of reader. He usually focus, in his novels,
around a single hero, using
the 1st person narrator
He supplied the needs
of Booksellers for
fiction and brouth to
this relatively new
genre an
unprecedented
narrative style.
