 What are they?

What purpose do they serve in English grammar?

We use comparative adjectives to

show change or make comparisons;

we use than when we want to

compare one thing with another:

” I am taller than you (short adjective)

He is more beautiful than him (long adjective) “

(in this case we have used maggiority comparatives, which is formed in two ways that depend on the lenght of the adjective (short adjective and long adjective). With adjectives ending with the silent – e, only the –r is added: large=larger. Adjectives that ends with a consonant preceded by a single vowel the final consonant: big=bigger.

Equality comparitives

 We use equality comparatives for quantities to compare two adjectives, we put

as before the adjectives. We put as much before uncountable nouns, we put as

many before countable nouns. We use as to introduce the second term of

comparison.

“ he has as much food as you; Max has as many friends as me.

Superlatives adjectives
