The "new economy" is what economists have called the second half of the 20th century. The term was born in
the United States and after a few years other nations have followed this model.
We are witnessing a change which it will be difficult to go back from, the new economy describes high-tech
growth industries, using automation techniques and instant internet connection.
Every aspect of human life has changed with the use of technology, we live in a "connected" world, we use
technology the most of time for shopping, booking medical exams, working, learning, selling items between
individuals.
Now we can’t imagine education without the use of technology, it makes available for teachers the use of
games, applications, that can be shared through technological equipment such as computers, tablets, projectors
and screens.
Recently in 2020, with the pandemic from covid19 the use of technology has greatly increased: online school
lessons and remote business meetings, as well as and being able to connect with friends and family.
The use of English is also experiencing a significant increase, through technology, as multilingualism is
becoming essential for watching TV shows, movies, listening to songs and playing online video games that
allow players from all around the world to be connected and enjoy together.
New ways of learning foreign languages are emerging, for example through the smartphone applications,
thanks to which students can practice on real exercises: they can use video calls between to practice on
speaking, but they can also follow online courses, either recorded or live with teachers. Social media play a
crucial role, because they allow the creation of special groups that users can follow for free (or pay) several
contents in English. Indeed, technology allows you to dispose of any type of content any time.
Radio is also a very important tool for connecting people, because it allows to reach places where an internet
connection is still not available, and it can allow the training of students living in poor areas.
In my opinion this technological changes have had a huge impact on the worldwide economy: the way we
work has changed, new jobs have been created, such as those who run computer networks or work online on
advertising, and those who work from home without an office. The way of conceiving the company has
changed, it is a set of professions and different sectors that come together and create an interconnected
economy.
Technological advancement is increasingly about all aspects of everyday life, there is no way back, therefore
I think we should be able to combine technology with real life. Nonetheless, we should not forget to have real
"contact" relationships, we should be interfacing with people not only through a screen but above all “in
person”.
Technology can help us carry out work tasks, leisure and personal time, facilitating us in everyday life but
without taking over the human aspect which is really important.
English language is now part of all work processes, it is essential to conduct meetings and collaborate with
external partners and it’s increasingly essential for all the activities of the new economy.
Since 2007 the focus has been on energy resources and climate changes.
These issues are finally arousing the attention of the USA but a turning point is not yet close, concerned about
the civil war in the Middle East.
Other developing countries are shifting their resources to help people still in poverty, disease and conflict.
Global energy security is at the table of the most powerful nations in the world: global warming is leading to
the search for new renewable energy sources to find a way to permanently abandon the use of fossil fuels such
as oil.
In the past heads of government used to joke about rising temperatures, disrespectfully towards scientists who
have been studying how to reverse this climate catastrophe for years and warning about the dangers for the
human kind.
I also think that the earth has a natural cycle to respect, let’s not forget that millions of years ago there was
glaciation, a phenomenon completely different from the current one.
I believe that our presence on earth is accelerating the warming process but that this should still happen in any
case.

Since 2007 the focus has been on energy resources and climate changes. These issues are finally arousing the attention of the USA but a turning point is not yet close, concerned about the civil war in the Middle East. Other developing countries are shifting their resources to help people still in poverty, disease and conflict. Global energy security is at the table of the most powerful nations in the world: global warming is leading to the search for new renewable energy sources to find a way to permanently abandon the use of fossil fuels such as oil. In the past heads of government used to joke about rising temperatures, disrespectfully towards scientists who have been studying how to reverse this climate catastrophe for years and warning about the dangers for the human kind. I also think that the earth has a natural cycle to respect, let’s not forget that millions of years ago there was glaciation, a phenomenon completely different from the current one. I believe that our presence on earth is accelerating the warming process but that this should still happen in any case.

Unfortunately, however, not all countries are reacting the same way, rather some are delaying the time for intervention and research. Economics scholars and scientists argue that only a dramatic change in the politics of the greatest world powers can help reversing the trend. In the recent years we have been witnessing the growth of "new emerging powers" called BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India and China). They are reshaping the world economy by adopting a growing economy, changing international trade policies and shifting to capital and natural resources. This situation is forcing most of the world powers to think about sharing management patterns and international systems in the near future. In the Middle East we are seeing one of the largest demographic growth, young people aged 15 to 24 account for almost a quarter of the population, if well exploited this situation can result in a young and promising workforce that could overturn in the coming years international relations and the world economy. Today attention is also focused to the global health crisis, too many people in the world are still victims of poverty and communicable diseases such as HIV and AIDS. Even in the United States, where healthcare has always been private, there is an increased awareness for a minimum guaranteed free health care, so as to treat the poorest people who are not able to pay for such services. In 2020 a global pandemic hit the planet, which we’re still struggling to come out from, and I think this made it clear that we can no longer underestimate global health. The private sector and multinationals have been growing in the last decade, emerging industries capable of finding huge amounts of capital, conditioning the world economy. In the healthcare industry too, large companies have been set up to support medical research and are successfully providing treatment for diseases that we thought we could not eliminate a few years ago. Once again, we focus on poverty. Half of the world’s population still lives in poverty: this must be the first problem for governments worldwide, encouraging an exchange economy, both of money and humanitarian aid to bridge the difference in the quality of life between developed countries and those in extreme poverty. I think that this is only possible if we change our mindset and way of life, if we care about others, but the great powers do not seem likely to focus their attention on these problems, worrying about their welfare more than anything else. I think that technology can help reduce health criticalities in poorer countries, for example by using medical video consultations to do medical screening. There are machineries that can transmit vital signs such as pulse, blood saturation and pressure, thanks to sensors that link to doctors operating on the other side of the world, so that one can immediately intervene and prevent any health problems. I think this is a good example of the correct use of technology. In the movies, we see technology taking over from man but I think this is quite an extreme scenario. Over the years, technology has been reshaping the way people work, creating new jobs and also allowing people who do not have a job to work. One famous example is Uber, an online platform that connects customers with private drivers without a particular license. Once again, this is an example of how technology can help creating work without particular skills and investments. Over the years we have been witnessing a change in society thanks to technology, we are abandoning jobs and we are growing in skills. Traditional work, where a person performs the same job throughout his working life, is slowly disappearing.

Society should move from traditional teaching for the first 25 years of life to a program of continuous, permanent, "dynamic" learning, allowing the worker to evolve in their abilities. The challenge for the future will be to create a society that increasingly supports these changes. In the future, particular attention must be paid to issues of environmental and economic sustainability, reducing the time to take the most important decisions for the conservation of the environment in which we live, to provide medical care for all people in need and a job for all people in poverty.
