Freedom writers film
Sintesi film – This film is based on the book "Freedom Writers' Diary" and tells about
Erin's experience Gruwell, a 23-year-old novice teacher, at the Woodrow Wilson High
School in California. She finds a classroom in which conflicts and fights among students
for ethnical reasons are daily. Her students were classifed “unteachebles” because of
crimes, drugs and gangs, but she didn’t want to give up. In order to fight the hate in the
class, she adopte a new model of teaching based on literature and reality making links
between literature's themes and social matters which regard in first person her students so
Shakespeare’s Montagues and Capulets become modern-day Latino and Asian gangs,
and Anne Frank, victim of the Holocaust, gets adopted as one of the pupils’ own.
In spite of this was seen such ridiculous and inappropriated by each other, she invite her
students to write a diary to record anything; so the “unteachebles” student coalesced
intellectually and emotionally and they adopted the name of “Freedom writers”, despite
ethnicity or a rival gang.
