1. TITLE “BILINGUALS: EXOTIC BIRDS OR EVERYDAY PEOPLE”?

In this reading there is a family, made up of father, mother, two children, and a

grandfather, who speak six languages: Danish, English, Portuguese, Spanish, Italian,

German.

The mother speaks three languages: Hight-Danish, and Hight-English , Italian and

others.

The father speaks Guaranì, and Spanish.

The Grandfather speaks Danish and the children speak six languages.

At the table there is an exchange of languages.

In short they have a conversation in four different languages.

In the final part of the reading there is the phrase :” one of the myths is that

bilingualism is uncommon, as if we bilinguals (called) are like rare, exotic bird”.

I agree with this reading, because being bilingual or multilingual is a great

advantage as it allows you to travel, it allows you to understand people all over the

world, it is important for example in a work interview. Today it is important to

know the languages. And also it is important to known English language.

2. THE WORLD’S BEST-KNOWN CONSPIRACY THEORIES.

In this reading there are three paragraphs:

 (Man on the mood, the king is dead, the death of the president).

The first: ‘ man on the mood’ is about the astronaut Neil Armstrong. The condition on

the moon were complicated and the flag only appears to flutter because the astronauts

moved it.

Conspiracy theorists say there were strange shadows in the photos of the astronauts

on the moon, and surprisingly no stars are visible.

The second: the king is dead: Elvis Presley was unconscious on his bathroom floor at

his home in Graceland, his family and friends desperately tried to save him. An

ambulance was called and Elvis was rushed to hospital where a special room had

been prepared for him. drugs were involved.

Elvis had taken painkillers because he had toothache and he couldn’t sleep.

Some people do not believe he is actually dead.

the third: the death of a president: president john f. Kennedy was assassinated on the

22nd of November 1963.

in this reading there are four parts: ( communication, entertainment, health, global

problems).

the first: communication: today we can use translating machine but they are slow

and inaccurate and they sound like robots. in only a year or two this new machine,

which will be a headset, could come onto the market and allow us to speak every

language under the sun.

the second: entertainment: a full immersion in virtual reality will be something

possible in perhaps ten to twenty years’ time. as computers interact with the brain,

we will have the sensation of touching, seeing, hearing, and smelling virtual objects

in virtual worlds.

third: health: the next step is to copy living tissue: a 3d printer will make copies of

body parts such as hearts, livers, and kidneys.

fourth: global problems: climate change is going to seriously affect traditional

farming so vertical farming, in the next thirty years, could be a possible solution

I agree with this reading because today technology is advanced and allow us to do

a lot of things that were impossible before.

7. MILLIONAIRES: “YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE BORN RICH TO BE A

MILLIONAIRE”.

in this reading there is the story of the millionaires. the life of this people: is money, money and more money. money is more important than love or marriage. most millionaires work more than sixty hours a week. millionaires can break all sorts of rules. they prefer gap to Gucci. they would rather find a bargain on the high street. I disagree with this reading, because being millionaire is a negative situation. I think that too much money and success can make unhappy. Money is a cards. I think that the important things in life are: marriage, love, family and work. These are the things that make you happy.

8. CHILDHOOD DREAMS. (chang diaz: rocket scientist, Lowry Davies, veterinary surgeon). the first story is about a rocket scientist, Chnag Diaz.

when he was young, he spent the afternoons imagining that he had his own rocket ship. He spent the whole day exploring other planets, and he would be back in time for dinner. the second story is about veterinary surgeon, Lauri Davies she always used to collect small insects that she found in the fields near her house. one day she found a butterfly. the butterfly opened its wings and flew away. that was when she realised what she wanted to do with her life. My dream when I was a child is to became a teacher.

9. THREE PARTS: “MEET THE SLOW THEATRE, THE ROUNDABOUT WATER PUMP, BUS STOP LIBRARIES IN BOGOTA’. meet the slow theatre : much of our popular entertainment these days is action-packed, expensive and based in cities. Instead, these people who are touring the US take a horse- drawn theatre, and a bicycle- powered silent cinema on the road with them. the roundabout water pump: people living in rural villages in Asia and Africa need to solve their problems with the lack of water., A company in s. Africa has invented a way to use children’s high energy levels to help pump water from underground. bus stop libraries in Bogota’/ Colombia: some people in Bogota had a wonderful idea for helping people to read on the go. they decided to install colourful book libraries around the city, in the parks and at bus stop. 10. QUESTIONS DADDY CAN’T ANSWER. in this reading there is a father, Jamison and his son who is four years old. the son asked the father several questions: for example:  “why do ships have round windows”?  why can’t we just cook her?  why is the sky blue  are rainbows hot or cold?  what was it like living in the 1940s?  why do police officers like doughnuts?  what would hurt more- getting run over by a car or getting stung by a jellyfish? jamieson decided to write down the questions. he contacted experts ranging from astronomers to Buddhist monks, to scientists, to magicians, and asked lots of questions. the book he then wrote is called: “father knows less”. 11. THE PEOPLE WATCHERS.

he then wrote a book, two world system, published in Italy in 1630. he roman catholic church which insisted on the older theory opposed the book the steam engine was developed in Britain in the 18th century. the steam engine allowed us to transform the way we use energy, including transportation, manufacturing and communication.

16. WHAT IF. CHINESE EXPLORES HAD LANDED IN THE AMERICAS FIST? in the reading, we learn that once, china led the world in technology. Its ability to build large strong ships went hand in hand with their other talent: exploration. in 1405 a Chinese explorer called Zheng went on a journey. Zheng made seven westward journeys. china stopped exploration, but is it did not the new Chinese colony would have grown and grown, and perhaps they would have later spread to other lands. 17. BABY BOOMERS. in the reading we learn that after world war ii a generation was born that has come to be known as baby boomers. they were followed by generation x, a name that was invented by photographer Robert Capa. generation x includes people born between the mid-60 and the early 80s. they arrived at a time of great technological change and are perhaps the first generation that is being educated for jobs that may not exist at the moment. following generation x is generation y or millennials, who were born between the early 1980s and

generation x is known for entrepreneurship and open-mindedness in regard to race, gender, class and religion. 18. TIME TRAVEL. According to this reading, all theoretical physicists have the same dream: they want to travel in time. the idea is outside our imagination and such thoughts just don’t come naturally to us (faces as smooth and unlined as glass). we can’t imagine watching stone age men dragging dead animals to their caves, or watching alexander the great conquering half the world, or seeing Mozart at this piano. but humanity makes progress slowly. and stone age man didn’t own TVs for entertainment. if time travel is even possible in the future, time travellers are probably with us now, today.

19. ETHICAL MAN IN THE USA.

In this reading there is a man JUSTON ROWLATT and his family He has defined ETHICAL MAN. They could to try to reduce our impact on the environment. They will drive an electric car and bikes. They use shopping online, ate organic vegetable and he even stopped eating meat. They will use public transport whenever possible. Each American is responsible for twenty tons of carbon dioxide emissions, more than twice that of the average European. I agree with this reading because the action of this man is a positive situation. We can reduce the smong and pollution. Today the new generation will use electric car and bikes. Napoli, it is full of smog and pollution, and it is a negative situation, in- fact today is an increase of illnesses about the environment.

20. RESTAURANTS: DEATH BY BURRITO, SUPER TUSCAN WINE BAR AND KITCHEN, BACK IN 5 MINUTES. death by burrito : Mexican street food restaurant where you can go if you want some Mexican food and maybe even enjoy a cocktail, its burritos and tacos are delicious. super Tuscan wine bar and kitchen: the decor is Mediterranean as is the menu: Tuscan dishes, and the food is cooked simply and tastes great, and there is such an authentic Italian atmosphere. back in 5 minutes: it’s hidden behind a clothes shop. and into the 1970s style dining room. you can choose from a selection of three starters, three main courses and three desserts. the atmosphere is so cosy and welcoming that you could easily forget you’re in a restaurant at all.
