Let’s sum things up: Network security is a set of technologies and procedures with the purpose of protecting information systems in terms of confidentiality, integrity and availability of information. Why did I choose to say these 3 difficult to pronounce words? Because those 3 fellas are the pillars of network security. If an enterprise isn’t able to guarantee all three of these conditions It means that the enterprise has been negligent in terms of cybersecurity, therefore you shall not trust it because your sensitive information may end in real danger. To evaluate security, it is usually necessary to identify the dangers, vulnerabilities and risks that the information may face. In particular cyber threats are usually divided into two main types: natural and human. Natural ones do not depend much on an efficient network security, but they are out of our control events for example earthquakes, floods, wars, acts of vandalism, anything that we can classify as a non-IT events. Human menaces on the other hand are also called cyber-attacks. These attacks are considered crimes and punished by the law. The peculiar thing about it is that a cyber-attack has the purpose of stealing or deleting someone else’s information. There are many types of cyber-attacks, we’ll talk about some of the most commons, threats that we could all happen to stumble into: Phishing Attacks: Phishing is a type of attack where cybercriminals send deceptive emails, messages that appear to come from a legitimate source to trick individuals into revealing sensitive information, such as passwords, credit card numbers, or any type of sensitive data. Ransomware Attacks: Ransomware is a malicious software that encrypts files on a victim's computer, keeping them inaccessible until a ransom is paid. These attacks have become increasingly prevalent, with cybercriminals demanding payments in cryptocurrency to unlock the encrypted files. Malware Attacks: Malware refers to malicious software designed to gain unauthorized access to or damage a computer system. This category includes various types of infections viruses, worms and trojans horses. (Types of infections are a subset of cyberattacks, but it doesn’t mean that they’re less dangerous) It's important to note that cyber threats evolve constantly, and new types of attacks emerge as soon as technology advances.
Staying vigilant, keeping software up to date, using strong passwords, and being cautious while interacting with any type of online content are some essential measures to mitigate the risks associated with cyber-attacks.
