The plot On their way back from a victorious battle, Macbeth and Banquo meet three witches who foresee that Macbeth will be the king of Scotland and tell Banquo that his sons will rule one day. Lady Macbeth decides to convince her husband to do whatever is necessary to seize che crown. Macbeth kills the king and becomes king of Scotland.
Macbeth becomes afraid of the prophecy wich foretold that Banquo’s sons would become kings, so instructs two men to kill Banquo and his son. Banquo is killed, but his son escape the ambush. Macbeth sees Banquo’s ghost sitting in his chair, he decides to visit the three witches the following day.
MAIN CHARACTERS Macbeth= protagonist of the tragedy, general of the king's army, brave man, hero, we understand his true nature after the first encounter with the witches: he is a man blinded by his ambition. Shakespeare shows us his internal torment caused by the awareness of his own actions and his moral decadence; he is repeatedly assailed by doubts before killing king Duncan and, even after the regicide, continues to commit crimes to maintain the throne.
Weird sisters= very similar to the furies of Greek and Norse mythology who govern human life and predict the future. They represent the dark forces of evil, they have supernatural powers; they know Macbeth's weaknesses and with their prophecies they induce him to act criminally to satisfy his ambition and at the same time they deceive him, especially with the final prophecies when they mistakenly make him believe he is safe.
Lady Macbeth= one of the cruelest female characters created by William Shakespeare. She has a very strong personality and manages to impose her will on her husband, who she manipulates thanks to the skilful use of words. She reassures him after Duncan's murder and controls his passions and feelings with great skill, but she too begins to feel remorse, loses her usual security, becomes completely mad and ends up killing herself.
Banquo= earl and general. He too is ambitious, but despite the prophecy he makes intelligence and reason prevail with the contribution of morality. The greed that blinds Macbeth will cause his death but not by his own hand. Macduff= Count of Fife, he doubts Macbeth and does everything he can to return the throne to the legitimate heirs. His loyalty will be punished with the death of his entire family but in the end he will take his revenge killing the usurper of the throne. Malcom= King Duncan's oldest son and legitimate heir to the throne, will ascend after Macbeth's death. He uses deception to ensure his own safety and restore order to Scotland.
The theme of violence is central to this work, with the protagonist committing murders to achieve his goals. In everyday life, we can see parallels with violent situations in the news, in interpersonal conflicts or even in entertainment media that reflect the challenges and consequences of violence in contemporary society.
the theme of ambition can be compared to people seeking success at any cost, sometimes sacrificing moral values or personal relationships in the process.
The theme of power can be seen in leadership dynamics or social hierarchies, where some seek to gain and maintain control over others.
Overall, the themes of "Macbeth" can reflect the moral dilemmas and challenges we face in everyday life, giving insights into human nature and our choices.
