The history of pop art from past

The Pop Art movement to present originated in 1952 in London, when an

Independent Group was created. The discussions among the group

members were centered on popular culture, including themes that were

poorly represented in the art of the time such as western films, science

fiction, advertising and new appliances. The text also highlights how the

continuous image of what was seen on television and in newspapers

influenced art. Roy Lichtenstein a famous artist of this movement was

influenced by the images of comics. Pop art represents a real revolution in

the world of art, trying to find a meeting point between art and ordinary

people, abandoning completely the concept of art for few. His legacy can

be seen in many spheres of contemporary culture, from fashion to

advertising. Pop artists have challenged traditional artistic conventions

and paved the way for a new era of artistic expression that continues to

influence and inspire today’s artists.

COLOUR

AND

TECHINQU

E

  • The colours used in works and

paintings are vibrant, often

complementary and reminiscent of

the colours of advertisements, which

must capture the attention of those

who watch them. That’s why pop

artists needed pure colors that would

last. The choice was therefore to use

in the designs pop art acrylic colors,

quick drying and shiny even when dry.

  • The Pop art technique that unites all

artists is to focus on everyday, banal

objects, situations and common

characters. However, there is no

single technique capable of

representing pop art. Each artist has

made the concept of pop art his own

in a different way than the others and

used different techniques. Among the

pop art techniques, we remember the

photomontage, sculpture, screen

printing, collage, all techniques that

provide the possibility of reproducing

the pop art works in series.

Major artists

The most famous artist of American pop art is Andy Warhol.

Among the Italian pop art artists we remember Mario Schifano, Mimmo Rotella, Enrico Baj and Emilio

Tadini. Italian pop art and its artists have revolutionized the world of contemporary art by inventing

new techniques and reinterpreting, without copying it from American artists, the concept of pop art.

Andy Warhol was born in Forest City, Pennsylvania on 6 August 1928

to a family of Czechoslovakian immigrants. In 1963 he founded

«Factory» in New York, an art workshop on 47th Street, where he

produced experimental films and an innovative magazine for the

graphic arts world, Interview.
