Reading about Places of Learning
The three texts that follow are written by a woman named Louise Boyd Cadwell for her book
Bringing Reggio. Emilia home, the book is about the Reggo Emilia’s approach.!
-Part I!
The Reggio Emilia approach is originated in the city of Reggio Emilia by two educators named
Loris Malaguzzi and Bruno Ciari who wanted to re-build he city starting by school after World War
II. This approach fosters the children’s intellectual development troth encouraging young children
to explore their environment and press themselves troth all of their available expressive,
communicative and cognitive languages.!
The Reggio Emilia approach values the belief that children are strong, capable, and they would
became strong and capable citizens who are full of wonders and curiosity to learn. The approach
believes that children have a natural drive that makes them want to understand and know about
the world around them works. Children are believed to be capable of constructing their own
methods of researching and learning using everything from play to a variety other hand-on-
learning experiences . The environment is considered to be a very important thing among the

learning process in this approach, and parents as well as teachers are considered playing an
important role in the children’s education. !
Learning is also made “visible” thanks to documentation children’s learning experience.!
In using this approach, time is given to the children, so they may be allowed to learn. The Reggio
Emilia approach views children as being worthy of being listened and feel that adults can actually
learn from children as well as other ways around.!
Teachers are also encouraged to allow the children to guide their own curricula on their own
interests and curiosities, the classroom environment is also cared and accommodating children’s
needs.!
-Part II
The Reggio Emilia approach is seen as an inspired child-led approach to learning, we can

summarize in some base concepts:!
1. The Reggio Emilia approach holds that children are central protagonist in the educational
process;!
2. The child is seen in relation to the world that surround them;!
3. The child uses many languages to communicate;!
4. The Approach cares about environment and the using of its related to child’s needs;!
5. The child is guided by a teacher;!
6. The teacher is also a researcher such the child;!
7. Documentation is important to children, because it makes them feel valued;!
8. Parents are encouraged to participate in the life of the school.!
In one sentence: adults and children are encouraged to learn by relationships between them
and the environment.

The text is a sort of diary which describes the way by Reggio Emilia approach is made up into a
school called Diana, the author is describing a typical day at School, especially he allows us to
grasp: scenes, things and moments.
