ALL THAT WE HAD IS GONE – summary The present article published on the Guardian website on 18 July 2023 by Nesrine Malik discusses the suddenly eruption of the war in Khartoum and explores the consequences emerged from fleeing As the author notes, although the city was accustomed to episodes of civil unrest and tension, a surprised reaction among both citizens and foreign diplomats has been caused by the abovementioned war outbreak. Furthermore, anyone who wanted to escape have been surrounded by both ground and airborne law enforcement forces. In particular, RSF troops engaged in occupying every neighbourhood in the capital of Sudan and ravaging citizens. As a result, while at first the RSF seemed unruly, later it seeked to have proved quite industrious. As the author points out, while Kharthoum has always been a peaceful and frequently prosperous city in contrast to more remote and backward places, on the other hand according to several citizens, it would have highly likely remained an inhospitable and desperate place. Moreover, although over the years, several conflicts have taken place in Sudan, this was the first time that the capital had been victimized. Nevertheless, infrastructure, houses and monuments have been destroyed. As the author highlights, RSF troops raided citizens' homes and looted them with such violence that it seeked to be inhumane. As a result, people have been left homeless, therefore seeking shelter or fleeing were the only things to do. Furthermore, due to unsafe routes and visa restrictions, Malik's family has taken refuge in another village in Sudan. Nevertheless, they do not stop seeking new solutions to definitely escape Sudan. The author comes to the conclusion that while the people of Khartoum had suffered for 30 years under Bashir's highly repressive regime, they now appear to have recovered. Similarly, it is very highly likely that the initiative to start the war has been due to the unequal distribution of wealth among people. As a result, taking up the arms has been deemed by the Rapid Support Forces the more appropriate way to achieve social justice and a fairer country. 339 parole
