GEOGRAPHY AND DEMOGRAPHY
It borders to the north with the Valle d’Aosta, to the east with the provinces of
Biella, Vercelli, Alessandria and Asti, to the south with the province of Cuneo,
to the west with France.
Turin is the fourth Italian municipality by population (after Rome, Milan and
Naples). Is an Italian municipality of 857,917 inhabitants, capital of the
Piedmont region.
HISTORY AND ECONOMY
Turin was probably founded near its current position, around the 3rd century
BC, then transformed into a Roman colony by Augustus with the name of Iulia
Augusta Taurinorum in the 1st century BC. From 1720 it was the capital of the
Kingdom of Sardinia, a state which in the 19th century would lead to Italian
unification and which made Turin the first capital of the Kingdom of Italy (from
1861 to 1865).
Turin is the third economic-productive complex in the country (together
with Milan and Genoa it made up the
industrial triangle
) and is one of the most
important economic centers in Italy. Considered one of the European
automotive capitals, some of the most important companies in the sector such
as FIAT.
ART AND ARCHITECTURES
Turin boasts an urban heritage of great historical and artistic importance. The
central areas, in particular, are full of noble palaces, theaters and churches
Also typical of the city are the large tree-lined avenues and porticoes that
adorn various streets and squares and another characteristic of the city is the
large presence of parks and green areas, both in the center and in the
peripheral areas.
Mole Antonelliana
The Mole Antonelliana , the architectural symbol of Turin, was designed in
1863 by the architect Alessandro Antonelli.
With a height of 167.5 meters, the Mole is the most impressive building
in the Piedmontese urban center. In addition to representing an
exceptional panoramic point, since 2000 it has been home to the
National Cinema Museum of Turin, the first museum dedicated to cinema
in the world.

 The Egyptian Museum of Turin is the oldest museum in the world dedicated to Ancient Egypt. It is considered the most important museum in the world after the one in Cairo due to the quantity and value of its finds. Among the most important finds are mummies, sarcophagi, papyri, amulets, jewels and the Rock Temple of Ellesija, a gift from Egypt to Italy for the museum's rescue of the site. SPORT: JUVENTUS AND TORINO FC The city of Turin has a long sporting tradition, home to some of the first Italian sports clubs, award-winning clubs and the site of major international events. Football in Turin has a historical and deeply rooted tradition. The city is home to two of the most important and oldest societies in Italy: Juventus , founded in 1897, the most successful Italian club, known internationally and a symbol of football success, and Torino FC , founded in 1906. Allianz Stadium  The Allianz Stadium in Turin, home of Juventus, opened in 2011 and has a capacity of 41,500. It is one of the most modern stadiums in Italy, equipped with commercial spaces such as J|Museum and J|Medical and represents a symbol of the team and the city. FOOD: TURIN CUISINE Turin cuisine combines popular peasant tradition with the elegance and richness of the Savoy court. Use many local ingredients (beef, wine, mushrooms, hazelnuts), butter instead of oil in many preparations, tasty sauces and well-kept desserts. It is a rich, warm, seasonal cuisine, with dishes that reflect the history and the territory. TOURISM IMPACT AND CONCLUSIONS Turin is one of the main tourist destinations in Piedmont and in recent years has seen a significant increase in visitor flows. In 2023 the city recorded over 2. million arrivals and more than 7 million presences , with foreign tourists surpassing Italian ones for the first time, representing 52% of the total. The international travel site eDreams has designated Turin as one of the most important tourist destinations in the world for 2017 and as the first European tourist stop, also defining it as the cultural capital of Northern Italy.
