Buckingham palace is the london residence of her majesty queen elizabeth ii, serving as a symbol of national pride and history. Originally built for the duke of buckingham in 1703, it was later acquired by king george iii in 1761. The palace underwent renovations in the 20th century after a german bomb destroyed parts of it. The principal rooms, including the gallery and guard room, are used for ceremonial and official entertaining, while semi-state apartments are used for private audiences and lunches. The large garden at the rear of the palace covers 40 acres and hosts annual garden parties and royal celebrations, featuring a helicopter landing area and a tennis court.
